I'm confused. Which is the correct plank position? On your forearms or on your hands similiar to a push up position?

Forearms. They are tougher.
If you can't hold a forearm one, then start (or switch to) on your arms. I have some girls I skate with who actually can't get their stomach off the ground using forearms, so we just have them use their arms instead.0 -

There are several variations of plank.
Any work out dvd I've ever done has called the one on your hands PLANK, then there's forearm plank, side plank and so on0 -

In the Jillian Michaels Yoga video I do every morning, a plank is on your hands.0

Both. You can do other things to make them tougher. Two-point planks require you to lift one arm and one opposing leg, for instance. Or you can do them on a Swiss ball. Or you can do them with one hand up on a step bench.
Fully extended are considered advanced. They are only easier if you lock out your elbows, which you shouldn't.0 -

wow...I find the forearm position engages my core much more and is tougher than the modified strait arm0 -

I find the forearm position easier on my core, but very tough on my injured shoulder0
