I was looking at BMI, which my goal weight wasn't even in the healthy weight for BMI so I changed my goal to a lower pound so that I was and now may calorie intake lessened. I don't understand why though. I don't remember telling MFP I had to lose in a certain period of time and if I did, where do I change it? I was losing fine how I was doing and planned on sticking with the original plan I'm on now in order to get there because im comforatable and like the way its going already.....

No limit. Go at your own pace. Just meet your daily calorie goals, don't fall below them. There's a built in deficit and you NEED to eat back your workout calories or you will not be fueling your MACHINE. Trust me. I met my goals in September after 9 months of hard work.

Did you change the rate? I don't believe they base it on a time, but rather the rate of how much you want to lose per week.. there's options for 0.5 lb, 1lb, 1.5lb and 2lb a week. Other than that I don't believe it should have changed.

Once you play with your settings it will not re-adjust. I wanted to go back to my early 2011 settings and it would not let me.

It wasn't changing your goal that did it directly. When you lose weight you burn less Calories. MFP adjusts your target Calories to keep you losing at the same rate. You can keep eating more, but eventually the loss will slow down.
  • I think the reason it changed was not because you changed your goal - it was because you have already lost over 20 pounds. You see as you lose weight your intake of calories goes down little by little and I beleive MFP is to recalculate it at every 10 pounds lost. However, it does not always reset automatically, so when you go in to reset or change you goal - it does it then. If you had saved the same goal as before I think it still would have dropped your daily calories. You can check this by going in and changing your goal back to see what happens and then put it back to your new goal. (I do go in and update with my same goal each time I am down another ten down and my daily goal drops by 10-15 calories.)

If you wanted it to give you more calories per day, you can always change the pounds per week you have it set at to a lower goal and that will increase your calories per day. (I keep mine set on one pound loss per week.)

    Hope this helps!

Thanks. I went in and changed my goal back and it stayed at the lesser intake. So those of you saying it readjusted because my start weight toward new goal is lower must be right. Thanks again!

This is interesting to note. Maybe if you keep it at the weight you wanted, and then once you get there, make a completely new goal? Kind of like starting over, but not really. One thing to keep in mind too, is lean muscle burns more calories than fat. It might actually level out once you get to a certain weight if you are logging your weight regularly.
