MFP adds extra calories earned for exercising to the food goals (Calories, Carbs, Fat, Protein) but I was wondering if I should stick to the nutritional goals it automatically calculated for me when I signed up?

How do you it?

TIA!

  • I stick to the goals that were set for me, then add the excersise that I've done later.

your original food goals are calculated on what you need to maintain your current weight and then subtracting the deficit you would need to meet your weightloss goal (1 or 2 lbs a week) so in theory if you did nothing but eat the calories in your calculated goal you will lose the 1 or 2 lbs a week. when you exercise you increase the # of calories your body requires to function and therefore increase your food goals for that day. if you eat back all of your "exercise calories" you will still have the calorie deficit included in your day to lose the weight. Most will suggest eating your exercise calories, I try too but sometimes find it tough to eat them all back and because this whole calculation is a guestimate to begin with i find its ok to be a bit under anyways. so if you exercise know that you have a bit more room to eat a bit more, if you eat them all back then ok but i wouldn't worry if you don't all the time.

Its up to you, I add my excercise at the end of the day after I have finished eating and loging my diary. If it adds more I ignore it. However it helps on a hungry day when I want a bit more....
