Foods to help hair grow faster?

My hairdresser actually asked me if I was running? She seems to think it keeps up my metabolism and that helps the hair growth. I also started taking Biotin after that and have noticed a HUGE difference in not only my length but NEW hair growth! I'm so excited about it.0

Not sure of any foods that help but an all around clean and organic diet is great for hair.
I've grown my hair 7 1/2 inches in this year by:
-Washing it every 2 days.
-Taking biotin & prenatals
-Using an all natural, sulfate free shampoo & conditioner
-Deep conditioning 2x a week
-Letting it air dry rather then blow dry
-Majorly reduced my flat iron use
-Stopped dying it.
^^ That all really helps. This will be the first time I've had long hair since I was 8-9 years old
This is great advice! What sulfate free shampoo/conditioner do you use? & could you elaborate on what entails a "deep conditioning"?0 -

I wish it were that simple for everyone. Unfortunately genetics has a lot to do with it.
I've been doing all of this (except not deep conditioning it quite so often, dying it once every four months or so, and never using heat on it) and, I just measured, and my hair is exactly half an inch longer than it was when I started measuring it in April
(And about two inches longer than it was in 2005)
Man, that is terrible :-( Fortuneatly, I've been blessed with good genetics. Usually I can donate 10 inches every year and half-2 years. I guess thats anywhere from 6-7 inches/year.0 -
Trying to have my hair long-ish by summer - currently its at my collarbones (donated to Locks of Love in July). I'm taking a biotin supplement right now but was wondering if anyone had success at growing their hair out faster & healthier by eating more/less of a particular food group or macro? Any tips & tricks would be greatly appreciated!
As long as your are getting adequate amounts of fat and protein your hair will grow as fast as it can - supplementing tons of oils and extra protein and gelatin will not help it grow.
The only vitamins I could possibly think would help would be probably C because its a hydroxylator but even that is far fetched - there are some drugs that will increase hair growth but usually they are 5 alpha reductase inhibitors and don't affect women (more for men with hair baldness) --> just my 2 cents0 -

I take a hair vitamin called Hairfinity, it increases the growth rate of your hair. Typically my hair grows 1/2 per month & a little faster in the crown of my head for some reason. With these vitamins my hair grows about 2x it's normal rate0

Don't wash it every day. My hair is thick so I can get away with every third day!0

I've also heard folic acid supplements help as well. Thoughts?
folic acid won't make your hair grow BUT every woman of child bearing age should be getting at least 400 mg of folic acid a day, if you where to become pregnant folic acid will prevent almost 98% of neural tube defects (brain and spine) as well as cleft pallet!
I take a womens one a day, 400 mg folic acid (I know I'm getting double the recommended dose of folic acid) 5000 mg of biotin, Biotin is what has made a HUGE difference as well as Redkens Anti Snap serum! My hair is super thick but living in the desert has made it very fragile, biotin has helped reverse the effects of my climate.0 -
I eat lots of protein and I take 3 of the Nature's Bounty Hair, Skin, and Nails (from Costco) per day. It grows at lightning speed....which is actually kind of annoying because I just want THICKER hair, not longer! I have to get it trimmed all the time! It does work for hair thickness, too.0

For the Biotin users: which brand and what strength? I take Biotin from Walmart (don't know the brand name) 5000mcg 2 capsules a day. Is that too much?0

I use Natures Bounty 5000 mg one a day, I've been taking it for about a month and half, my hair is healthier, stronger, less breakage and its not falling out as much.
Like I said I use redkens anti snap too and that has made a HUGE difference as well!0 -

I take 10,000 micrograms not milligrams per day. Do you take 5000 milligrams a day? Also I came up with the dosage myself. There is no prescribed dosage or if it is there I definitely am not following it.0 -

Thanks for the tip about folic acid! Not planning on having kids any time soon, but def good to know for when I am ready!0 -

I use Natrol Biotin (Walmart) and it has 1,000mcg. So far I've noticed a difference in the health of my hair and even noticed it getting more length to it! Although it is hard to tell for sure.0
