High Calorie but low fat content snacks?

Hey all,

I keep running into this issue where I'm under calories (ending the day around 1,000), but I'm over on fat. I know it only really happens when I've decided to eat food with avocado or some other high fat food. But regardless - I keep running into the issue where I need to eat more calories, but I don't want to keep piling on fat above the recommended level.

For example, I only have 6 allocated grams of fat left today, but I've only had about 650 calories total (2 eggs w/turkey for breakfast, and a salad with chopped avocado for lunch).

Do you have any recommendations for good snacks that will allow me to hit my calorie goal without going overboard on fat?

Thanks!

    Dried fruit.

Going over MFP's arbitrary limit won't hurt you.

Instead of measuring just fat, switch to monitoring Saturated Fat - that is one of the bad fats.
You have to remember not all fat is bad fat :)

Trans fat is the only "bad fat".

A little overly simplistic, dontcha think?

I didn't really feel the need to go into the details.

Personally I have noticed all the difference when I switched to monitoring sat fat.

Haha ok. Yeah, like 90% of the fat I've eaten today is "good" fat (avocado and cooked the eggs with olive oil). So, I'll just be sad to see the little red number but get over it. =)

However, I do love dried fruit. The only dried fruit that I have in my house at the moment, however, is banana, and that has a lot of fat, unfortunately.

Please post the methodology and results of your n=1 study.

What is your daily fat intake and why are you worried about going higher?

MFP has me set at 54 per day. I generally don't go over, but pretty much ANY time I choose to eat a high calorie food like avocado, I go over. Today, I've already had 49 grams of fat, so theoretically, I only have 5 left over for any snacks & dinner. However, I'm only at 651 calories. Yesterday, for example, I ended the day at 63 grams of fat (17 of which was avocado in a shrimp salad) but only 1200 cals. Looking at my food diary, I tend to average around 50 grams per day unless I eat avocado or use olive oil.

I'm only worried about going over because I assumed that the fat threshold they had listed here was based on how much I should eat per day at my weight.

All the difference in what exactly?

As long as you get your necessary protein and fats, the rest of your calories can come from wherever you want. Makes no difference if they come from carbs, or more protein or fats.

MFP numbers aren't the gospel, they're simply guidelines that help you keep some balance. Going over in fat isn't going to hider progress, as long as you calories are in check.

I weigh 185 and regularly eat over 100g of fat per day.
