I was doing some reading here on the forums and saw something about figuring out my BMR to figure out how many calories I need a day.

I found a BMR calculator and it says I have a BMR of1688.95.
In light of this information, how many calories should I be eating or how do I figure it out from there?

TIA!

BMR is how many calories you'd burn in a coma. There are many ways to take this and figure out how many calories your burn with normal activity, and or with normal activity plus exercise. Basically you just multiple your BMR times some coefficient. Different methods use different multipliers. MFP doesn't include exercise so that you can add it in later. Other formulas/ websites do include so that you don't eat your earned exercise calories. Then once you figure out the calories you burn, you subtract a certain amount based on your weight loss goal, so 500 for a pound a week.

But really, why not just let MFP set your calorie goal? It does all that for you.

    I like this one.

As Rae said, BMR is your not doing a damn thing / laying in bed all day - this is what your body needs to survive calories.

You need to know your TDEE, which is your daily expenditure - because as a living person I assume you actually MOVE throughout the day :) Once you have your BMR, follow the link on the page to calculate your TDEE.

MFP also does a decent job with that based on your activity level.
