so i'm not a drinker. i used to enjoy it quite thoroughly but within the past two years i have been dealing with illness and medications that don't mix well with it. it seemed as though as soon as i drank, it was an instant hangover. because of this i just quit...which sucked at times. hanging out with friends wasn't the same and my fiancee really enjoys his cocktails so i am always DD. but i guess this has really helped with the weight loss! my illness is under control and i'm feeling really good again, i'm sure the life style change has helped as well. anyway, there've been a few times recently that i've ventured out and enjoyed a drink. i'm wondering what is a good drink that's fairly low in calories? i'm not into beer and if i were to drink, i like sweet girly things or even wine. i'm sure the sweet things are the ones highest in cals? but any suggestions? i'm going to be with my whole family tomorrow night staying in a hotel so i'd like to just relax and enjoy a few drinks with them. i appreciate your input!!

I drink rum and diet coke, but I've heard that vodka and tonic water is best.

I have Bombay Sapphire gin (highly aromatic botanical gin really lovely) with diet tonic and the juice from 1/12th of a lemon. About 60 calories for the whole thing and YUMMY.

Beer and wine are too high in calories, although I will have ONE GLASS of wine now and again, but if I just want to have a drink and put my feet up and relax, the G&T does the job. Two G&Ts do the job twice as well for a lousy 120 calories too!

The trick is finding the diet tonic water. I can't even get a hold of a nice name brand, just a generic one, but it's worth it.

red wine is the healthiest way to go in terms of the nutrients....but as for calories, any light colored alcohol (gin, vodka, clear rum) and 0 calorie mixers. My favorite drink is gin and Fresca! It tastes way better than tonic water, tastes like Sprite, but 0 calories!

Drinks with bubbles make you more drunk.

    Vodka/soda with lime and lemon.
Presbeterian any alcohol with soda and gingerale mixed.
Cosmopolitan-hold the triple sec. Vodka/splash cranberry/fresh lime juice. order it this way.
Vodka soda splash of cranberry and lime

The more colorful an alcohol the more adjuncts or impurities it has. The more impurities the greater the hangover. Hi-end alchohol such as Grey Goose or Patron Blanco/silver are filtered 5X.

Ex: Bourbon is a white alcohol when first produced. It is stored in chard oak barrels for several years. It is the warming and cooling of the barrel that absorbs and expells the alcohol. Everybody has seen the rings in trees when cut down. The bourbon takes on its color from this.

Hangovers are caused from the adjuncts or impurities from alcohol. These impurites collect in the brain and the pain is the result of your body trying to get rid of it.

Stay away from andy diet sodas. These chemicals with your condition are not healthy for you. Your body has to get rid of the chemicals that you ingest. If your body is busy fighting or clensing itself it will store the toxins with fat.

Love Cosmos. I make mine with Ocean Spray Light (not OS Diet) at 6 cals per ounce. Also like to add just a splash of OSL to cold water for an almost no cal beverage.

Great twist on a cosmo is to add 1 oz dry champagne (after shaking), cuts the sweetness and adds some bubbles.

I'm not drinking now because with my glucose issues I cannot lose weight with regular drinking, though I can maintain. I definitely plan to go back to alcohol, but at no where near the frequency that I was at before.

    Cheers!
