I've been on the internet since my grad student days in 1983. Usenet was the first online bulletin board, and it was three years old in 1983. Old timers on forums were constantly complaining about the newbies who kept going over the same ground again and again. Same with Compuserve ... then AOL became a Big Dog in the mid to late 80s and you kept getting these AOLamers in Usenet forums and all the old timers would flame them (sound familiar?).

As long as there's been an internet, therefore, old timers have always resented and flamed newbies on bulletin boards/forums. No doubt, it was the same with the subculture that grew around the telegraph, the Victorian equivalent of the internet. Plus ca change, plus le meme chose.

The communities that are forums don't have long memories, and there will always be newcomers. You can choose to treat them with kindness and the understanding that, like the poor, they'll always be with you, and that asking questions is the main way people become part of a community (even if they're stupid/clueless questions). Or, you can flame them because they're too lazy/stupid/whatever to read all those wonderful/informative previous posts or the FAQs or sticky posts ... and if you make this choice, realize that for real old timers like me, flames about people not reading previous posts or FAQs or sticky posts are even more tiresome than the people who complain about them.

And remember, every one of us was a n00bs once.

This is why I normally don't post anything on this board because of how many people attack for asking anything. I do use the search button and sometimes find it useful. Knowledge is power but what is the harm in asking? Nobody knows everything and most people are on this site to get healthier. I try to find info out on other boards and not on this site because of how many rude people are on here. There are some great people on here.

To be honest all this does is make me want to post the commonly asked questions......its a sickness if I know. If something bugs people I just want to do over and over agian:laugh:

I know when I first started, I was finding new stuff every day on this site. I didn't see the search at first. Yah, I know it is at the top of the page. I also see so many conflicting answers to questions that I understand why a newbie would want to see fresh answers to the questions. It doesn't bother me when it is a newbie asking a repetitive question. It does get aggravating when it is someone who has been on the site for a while and they have posted the same topic several times, sometimes in the same day, same hour.

The TOM (it is your period, btw) threads get to me because I honestly don't understand how a woman who has had one for 10+ years has never noticed what happens during that time, like they can't remember what happend just a few weeks earlier.

Sometimes the repeat threads are a hoot. Like how every Friday, there's a crop of new threads asking about low cal alcoholic beverages.

It would make a great drinking game. Do a shot every time one of those threads pop up on a Friday night, and you'll be sloshed in no time flat! :drinker:

I'm sure there are a lot of new members who don't realize they can search, or not sure how to do an actual search, or don't think the question has been asked before, no matter how obvious others "long timers" might find it. I'm sure you just scared off a lot of newbies from asking any future questions.

Hopefully you're not a teacher, or ever will be one. That saying "there are not stupid questions" certainly doesn't apply to you, huh?

Now just as some others posted that you would get slack for your post, I'm sure I'll get slack for mine. Oh and for good measure....:flowerforyou:
