So me and my husband had a HUGE change of plans and are now spending our anniversary vacation in San Angelo Tx instead of in Cloudcroft NM (in the mountains with amazing scenery). I have rented a house, a bed and breakfast but we have the whole house to ourselves, she just comes over and makes us breakfast in the morning. We are going to be there from December 30th until the 1st. I googled San Angelo and the surrounding area and couldn't really find much to do in the winter besides look at the lights and there is a Bordello museum that I really want to go to.

Anyone been there? Does anyone have any suggestions on what there is to do in San Angelo?

  • I lived there for a year. Absolutely nothing to do. Very boring and no scenery. All to do is go out and eat. Very isolated place for a city of 100,000.

wow, I posted this on another site too and I'm getting nothing. Very discouraging. :(

I was hoping there was some secret gem in this little town...

I've spent some time in San Angelo. It's not exactly a tourist Mecca. I didn't know about the bordello museum so apparently it has one more thing to see than I thought it had. I think the hills are pretty and there is (or used to be) a decent cigar shop but other than that........

What about night life? Do you know of any clubs or strip joints? I prefer piano bars while my husband would probably prefer the strippers, lol.

we had our anniversary all planned out, but baby mama drama got in the way and now we're going to pick up our kids from her on our anniversary. It's always unpleasant when her and my husband are in close vicinity, so I'm trying to make this as stress free for him as possible. I supposed just staying in, maybe a little shopping might be good, we can make romantic all by ourselves, lol.

A few clubs but nothing great. I will strip for you if you like male strippers. I have quite a surprise in my pants to display! LOL

There are bars. I don't know about piano bars and I'm sure there are strip clubs but I don't know about them (no really, I don't). I was only ever there for a few days at a time and it's been a while. There's a college there so there is all the associated college kid stuff but on a smaller scale (as it's a small school).

Out of curiosity, why did you pick San Angelo? I've never heard of anyone going there on purpose.

You're in for some good quiet time. There are some great Mexican food places and you MUST eat at Zentner's Daughter Steak House. There are bars there, small town bars but remember, college is out for the semester so they aren't going to be 'hopping'. I don't know where you're from but Fredricksburg is about 2 1/2 hours away. There's some fun little quaint towns around San Angelo but I suggest planning on a low-key vacation. BUT, on the flip side - there are NO bars in Cloudcroft, just scenery. There is MUCH more to do in San Angelo - just think small town...

We didn't pick san angelo, that's half way between our house and my husbands ex, by her calculations only.

We are getting custody of my oldest step son on the first, and we don't want to burden the ex because we already have custody of the youngest 2 and now we are taking the 3rd, so no matter how unreasonable and uncooperative she's being, I'm sure she's in a lot of emotional pain and I'm trying not to make that worse, and so I agreed to meet her in san angelo, it's only a 2 hour drive from her house, so it'll help her out with money and that way she could spend more on the kids since she's getting them for christmas this year.

We really kind of edge towards scenery, I live in Clovis, NM, so we have NO scenery whatsoever, and I'm originally from upstate NY, and I really miss the trees and the snow. So staying in the cabin all weekend in cloudcroft wasn't a big deal, but this b&b is just a normal house with a normal street view, so I thought maybe we could do a little more.

I grew up south of Portales 20 miles. My mom lives in Portales and my dad & step-mom live 30 miles south of there. ha ha! Small world!
  • Try some locations (bars/grills/dance halls) in New Braunfels, or go to San Antonio for a day. Fredericksburg is also a good day checking all the shops (it has a German heritage so there is plenty of good food and beer)
