Ooof. . .It's my up-early-Monday. I have to supervise four hours of exams today. This is the most boring task imaginable. I have to look like I'm preventing cheating, so I can't read a magazine or anything. (My philosophy is if they really want to cheat, they'll find a way to do it. I hate cheating, but I also hate being a policewoman. Because, the ugly truth is, if they're smart enough to find a way to cheat and not get caught. . .they're smart enough to do well in school, if they would only suck it up and get some morals. Did I mention I hate cheating?)
Today is either a day off or bikram. . .I'm actually very sore from the jog yesterday, so I will make the effort to stretch it all out at yoga.
Where's all my pebbles at lately? It's been lonely up in here. . .
Take care.:flowerforyou:

Hi, gang! Friday was my last day at work. The position I was hoping would become available has actually become available now, and there are actually 2 positions to be filled. Wish me luck. I Fed Ex'd my application packet as soon as I got the notice. I hope this works out. If not, I'm sure something else will come along. I have an interview this afternoon for an adjunct teaching position at one of the local colleges, and I'm waiting to hear back from another teaching interview at another one of the local colleges. My 7 year old little boy is home with the flu today, so it is nice just being able to be with him and be mommy without worrying about who is going to stay home and what work has got to get covered. I figured I'd better get back to MFP since I will be at home and tempted to snack too much if I don't keep a close eye on calories consumed. I got my spin class in this morning. Weights tomorrow morning. I'm hoping to do a little extra at home, too, in the way of working out.
Hope everyone is doing well. I'm looking forward to catching up.

Glad to see you back Bobbie - good luck in your job search.
Yesterday, we went for a hour bike ride. I told husband we would have to do at least 2 hours next weekend - and do some hills. Today, I'm teaching yoga, going to yoga, and doing cardio.
I was reading a post the other day about "is it possible to lose weight while training for a marathon"? The consensus seemed to be that after you got above the 35 miles a week, the weight wouldn't come off. This got me thinking - is it possible to do so much exercise that you don't lose weight? I'm mean 35 miles a week is easy (for me). I think I'm closer to 42 miles a week (if you convert other exercise to walking), as I generally burn about 4500 calories a week (100 calories is about 1 mile).
If anyone has any insight, please let me know.
Have a great workout!0 -
I just found this:
"Burning more than 3,500 calories every week can be harmful, that could lead to decreased physical benefits and increased risk of injury."

Vivia, I hope today the exams go by quickly for you. I could see how that would be SOO boring!
Bobbie, it's good to see you back! I hope one of these jobs works out for you soon! And I hope your little boy gets better fast!
Mary, I have to admit I am a little envious that you have a husband who works out with you, or at least rides bikes with you. My hubby is skinny and hates to exercise, so I am alone in this weight loss/control thing. That's interesting that too much exercise can be a problem. I think someone posted recently that Jillian Michaels said that also. Which is weird since the people on BL work out 6-8 hours a day. I don't think I can work out too much. I'm not motivated.
My weekend was crazy. I pretty much crashed after the home study. It was exhausting in every respect. I also had a nervous breakdown of sorts, realizing that this adoption is really going to happen! I freaked. I have moments that I am excited but other moments that I am terrified. I have been spending a lot of time in prayer that this is the right thing to do or not.
Also we had our rings polished and cleaned and my engagement ring had to have a prong fixed. We went to pick them up on Saturday and they "lost" my wedding band! The one they gave me looked the same but it was a 5 1/2, not my 8! :noway: We think they resized it. So now they are "finding" my ring and will call us.
Oh and my house is clean! It took me 15 minutes to clean up the entire house this morning! I love it! Why didn't I do it sooner!
On to goals. lol. I'm chatty. I have a lot of news!
I complete the two hundred sit ups challenge this morning. I am going to continue to do the sit ups 3 days a week to get better abs. I'm still stuck on the push ups. I did 78 on my test.
Today is:
enjoy my clean house and keep it that way (even Alex is putting away his toys!)
play with Alex
push ups (done)
situps(done)
walk or do taebo
log foods
drink water
Have a blessed Monday!

I'm alive!!!!
I had my defense last Thursday and it went pretty well! Most importantly, it's over. Now all I have left to do is get my written portion pulled together, bind it, and turn it in! I'm honestly not sure if my committee is even going to both to read it... but I'm one of those perfectionistic, low self-esteem types, too, so I want to make it as good as possible. It'll be housed in the department library for perpetuity, after all! So I may still be a little quiet on the forum for another week or so.
But it is SUCH a relief to have the work and the defense behind me. I have a feeling that I have lost a fair amount of fitness over the past couple of months (although my weight hasn't really changed), so I am setting a goal of regaining lost ground in March, and then starting to kick it up again and lose the last 5-10 pounds starting in April. And hit 100 pushups and be ready for a (slow) 5K at the end of May. Way to go on the 20 minutes of jogging, V! MM, I'm glad the home study is behind you - that sounded stressful. Bobbie, good luck with the job search - and hope your son feels better.
Mary, I am seriously impressed by how much exercise you do. 3500 calories a week is 500/day - that seems like a lot, but I wouldn't think it was harmful. But if weight loss is the goal, then it might be that your body is working so hard that it doesn't want to give anything up - I know that I broke through my plateaus a couple of times by eating more and exercising less, as counterintuitive as that sounds. I couldn't give you the science behind it, though.
Take care, all!0 -
Hey CP! We can't wait until you are back with us daily! I am so glad for you that you got your defense done and it went well! yay! I just noticed your ticker and I didn't know you were so close to your goal! That's so awesome! Glad you checked in! See you again soon!

Hi all, I'm back from MA. I spent a really nice week with my Mom but there isn't much to do exercise-wise. She can't walk fast so we went for a leisurely walk once. Then spent a whole day at chemo, but had a good book to read. The next day was doing all the house chores and watching my sister's kids while she worked. I should have gone to the store when I got there and bought all my salad fixings but I didn't so I'm not going to even bother getting on the scale. I just didn't bother paying attention to anything I ate so this week it is back on the wagon. I was pretty bummed because the snowpants I ordered didn't fit. My fault though I will own up to it. I will just spend time losing it again because I am not sending them back. It was nice to get home, as I can control more of what I eat and not feel like I am going to offend anyone. I also missed my treadmill. I didn't think I would ever say that.  But today we started the day by shoveling ourselves out to get to work, thank god for 2 hour delays for school some days. So I got a good 20 minutes of that in and only half the driveway is done but so am I for now
. The other half will have to be done later as my arms are tired. I just wanted to check in and say hi, I haven't had a chance to catch up on reading the SBF thread for last week but I will be back when I have. I also really missed not having this place to come to while I was there. See you all later. K

Well, there's everybody!
CP, congratulations. I am positively pea-green with envy reading the words "it's over."
Mary, I'm giving some of the same thought to the whole "too much exercise" idea. I'm thinking I need to start enforcing my days off. Even only doing cardio four days a week, I'm averaging a lot of miles. It just gets to be more and more of a puzzle. . .the real test is my weigh-in this week to see if I've dropped any strike weight. I seem to remember reading somewhere that too much cardio releases cortisol, which can contribute to weight retention. If anyone knows anything about this, please to chime in.0 -
Yeah! People! We were getting lonely there for a while.
I forgot to congratulate you on your 20 minutes V - so Congrats! 5k in no time.
I'm hoping AD will chime in on the "working out too much". I don't even know who I would contact about that - doctor? personal trainer? weight loss expert?
I'm not sure I would like to take a day off. I do easy days every other day though. I'm wearing the HRM all week this week, just to see how many calories I burn a week.0 -
I like to do one crazy hard workout a week now. . .so that I actually feel it the next day, and take a day off.
It's hard for me to take a day off, though. . .but it's important.0
