Do you only count lbs. lost since MFP, or from before?

Hello and Happy Friday!

I was reading another post when I noticed that some MFP members count just the pounds they lost since they joinied MFP, while others count pounds they've lost from before they started.

So far, I've lost 8 pounds since I started MFP in Nov. However, I've lost 11 pounds since I was brave enough to get on the scale and then started working out again, which was June.

So, if you were me, which would you count from on your weight loss ticker? And, if I decide to, is it even possible to change it?

Thanks and have a great weekend.

You can go to tools, tickers then it's the first option (change ticker info or something) I've lost 13 pounds since I've started this, but only 7 pounds since I started on MFP which was about 3 weeks ago, though I've been a member longer than that.

It's up to you which starting weight you go with :) It's the goal weight that's important.

My ticker only reflects what I've lose since I started MFP but you can damned well bet that if it comes up I'm counting the 27 lbs I lost before I started using this site:)

Thank you! That was something I'd been meaning to look for but hadn't gotten around to doing:)

At first I only did the pounds since starting MFP, but that's because I didn't realize I could back-date weights, so to speak. So, I transferred the information I'd been keeping in a tiny Moleskine notebook to MFP.
  • I only track on here since I started MFP. I have lost 6 lbs since, but a total of 10 since I started watching what I ate

I didn't know you could back date weights! How do you do that?

    it's all about preference :):)
personally, i'd say how much i've lost TOTAL, and then in my "about me" or "why i want to get in shape" section i would say:

    (My Examples)

    Height: 5'4"
    Weight Before MFP: (235lbs)
    MFP Starting Weight: (230lbs)
    Current Weight: (209lbs)
    Goal Weight: (135lbs)

or something like that (: good luck!!

I track all the lbs lost since I started, but I started losing weight a week before I found out about this website. So I just went in and changed my starting weight, I think I had to go to a date before I did my initial check in and added my starting weight.

I started tracking my calories MFP-style with a 1200-1500-ish calorie goal before I actually started on MFP. I started doing it BECAUSE of all the success my friends had had following the MFP plan, I was just too chicken to actually join the site at that time. I was afraid that somehow my body wouldn't 'work' and that I'd just embarrass myself. It wasn't until I'd already lost 10 lbs doing the 'plan' on paper that I got up the confidence to actually join. My ticker reflects my entire weightloss since MFP inspired me to get started, even though the first 10 came off before I got the guts to join. :-)

My ticker counts the last of the baby weight, but I've lost 80 lbs. since the beginning of my journey so many years ago.

Baby weight, ha! I adopted, and I waited for my child for 3 years. So I like to "blame' the excess weight on my "3 year pregnancy"!

You should hear me mention this 3 year pregnancy in conversation about weight loss, it really brings people pause. And confusion.

Thanks, everyone, for your advice on my weight loss ticker.

I count pounds lost from my highest weight ever which was in 2010. I have no clue how much I weighed when I started MFP, my weight flunctuated drastically alot at one point. But I count for the highest I ever gained which was 195 which was in August 2010. I joined MFP in March 2011 and I am hoping to get to my goal weight by March 2012 (my MFP 1 year anniversary) :)
