Unintentional weightloss?

I use MFP for weight gain purposes, and it was working for awhile. But my doctor recently started me on an elimination diet for allergies (gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, tomato-free and peanut-free), and I'm also a vegetarian (but that isn't new).

Since I started this new diet, my weight has been falling precipitously--even though I'm eating at least as many calories as I was before, some days as much as 200 more!

I'm trying to up my cals more consistently but it's tough with all the restrictions even to reach what I've been getting

But that's not the point; I can handle solving the problem myself I think, I'm just curious about the possible causes. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?

  • what are you getting in for protein? It must be pretty low without soy and being a vegetarian....I think I would def. lose weight with those kinds of restrictions! It must be tough finding protein!

I've actually been having no problems with protein! I eat a TON of almond butter, lentils, and black beans. Basically two or three servings of each every day. Yummm.

It could be bloating and inflammation settling down because of the exclusion diet. You should really see your doctor about it though.

I agree that you need to ask your doctor.

I recently went in for some digestive issues, and the doc did not believe me at first when I said my weight loss was intentional. I guess when people had the symptoms I was having, they lose weight whether or not they want to.

It could be that the allergen food was causing bloating and now that you've eliminated it the bloating is gone.

I'm also a vegetarian and spent three months on an exclusion diet about ten years ago...no tea, coffee, wheat, dairy or yeast. Take out meat and fish and it didn't leave me with much! I had to stop eating so many processed foods, my sugar intake dropped dramatically, I didn't exercise much and I didn't need to lose weight. However, I lost about 7lbs over those three weeks! The diet was tough but it did sort out my allergies and I felt so much better for it.

By the way, I did see my dr about the allergies first, but it was a waste of time...I saw a nutritionist then and she was the one who got me healthy again.
