Does it count as water intake for the day if you throw it back up? And if this is an obvious silly question I appologize, I'm not feeling well enough to think for myself right now!

I'm not feeling so good today and trying to calm myself by staying hydrated, but if I throw up, should I reset my water cup counter back down to 0?

Sorry for the TMI, I am just trying to keep hydrated and get in my 8 cups as I try everyday.. dang it for feeling horrible :(.

If you can, switch to something like gatorade. The have a 0 cal version if you don't want to drink your calories, but if you're throwing up the sodium (aka electrolytes) will help prevent you from getting dehydrated. I'd also say take today off of tracking your water. If you're sick you don't need to give yourself anything anything to stress out about.

If your sick ,your sick don't worry about calories or water intake until your feeling better, I agree though, try and get some electrolytes and stay hydrated. Hope your feeling better soon.

I agree that you shouldn't worry about calories or logging if you're ill, but you should take care not to become dehydrated. If you're still nauseous, don't force down fluids or they'll just bounce. But when your stomach is a bit more settled, have some Gatorade or G2 (lower cal) or even some ginger ale. Remember BRAT: bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. They're all easy on the stomach.

Yes, you should reset your water back to zero. It didn't hydrate your body. In fact, your illness probably has or will have you dehydrated. So drink when you can, and stop counting your cups of water when you're sick, crazy lady. Feel better.

Ok I'm going to tell you what my pediatrician told me when my twins were little and sick. If you feed the virus in your stomach it will stay alive. DO NOT eat or drink anything for 8 hours from the last time you threw up. That means at any point, if you throw up, the 8 hours starts from there. After 8 hours, take a sip of some water and see if you can keep it down. Give it 30 minutes and then have a little more... Then try some crackers or toast... If you can keep it down, you are good to go.

We have been doing this for 20 years now and we never have a stomach bug more than a day. It's hard to do, but you won't dehydrate in this amount of time and whatever is in your stomach won't survive without food or water.

Sometimes water can make un upset stomach worse. I would drink sprite or Gatorade. It is a time not to worry as much about calories and water intake as to get yourself better. Take good care of your body and heal.

Personally I don't care for the taste of the sports drinks on the market. About 10 years ago I had some issues (while dieting low sodium) where my blood pressure would get too low. My doctor suggested that I drink 4oz of sports drink to keep my electrolytes up. I told him that I just didn't like the taste of them and he suggested Pedialyte (or similar generic) as an alternative. It actually has MORE electrolytes than the sports drinks, less sugar, milder flavor, and there is even an unflavored one. It works great on those "day after" days too!

This is very strange. Your doctor actually implied that a virus needs food and water to "survive"? Viruses are neither dead or alive. The are active or dormant. They do not eat food or drink water. That would be a parasite. Not eating or drinking when you cannot hold down food or water makes sense, but not to "kill" a virus, just so there is no mess to clean.

If you're really sick, get some rest and stay HYDRATED. Get off of MFP for the day. We won't tell anyone.

I think you should get off MFP and go veg out (or better yet sleep) on the couch or in bed...don't worry about logging when you are sick!

PS, if it were me, I'd try fallenangello's advice to see if it works; if you're throwing it all up anyway, 8 hours isn't going to hurt you, though I would go with soup broth after water.
