Does your pancreas need eyeglasses?

What causes diabetes to occur is an ineffective and/or inefficient pancreas. In other words a pancreas that is not able to do it's job for whatever the reason!!! Sugar in and of itself, does not cause diabetes. And sugar does not make your pancreas fail.
You are correct if you know that the pancreas' job is to secrete insulin which in turn will convert food to energy that can be used by every cell in the body. Insulin and sugar are like a lock & key. When the pancreas does not secrete enough or poor quality insulin, then food will not be converted to energy and cannot be utilized by the body. The hormone must fit properly and be healthy to convert the food cells to glucose which is our main form of energy. Without this occurring, the food particles cannot be broken down small enough to enter the cells in all the organs throughout the body including the heart and brain. This over time makes you sick and causes severe complications potentially. The confusion is that “sugar” does need more insulin than other foods to be converted to energy with that said, it is now known that a poorly functioning pancreas causes diabetes.
For years I didn’t understand and had a physician who kept telling me to change my diet as if I was causing diabetes in my body. I like vinegars and seasonings but not particularly sweets, well let’s exclude ice cream which I love. After taking an intensive six week class at a local hospital on Diabetes from RN/RDA educators, I went and found a new doctor based on the information I learned. I had a bum for a pancreas! Nothing wrong with my food choices that a little tweaking wouldn’t fix but didn’t . If you wear glasses and were told to focus better it would sort of be similar. What you are trying to read no matter how small the print didn’t cause a need to wear glasses. The issue is with the eyes. With diabetics the issue is with the pancreas and not caused by the ingestion of sugar. Now to clarify, a diabetic would be foolish to continue to eat foods high in sugar or to not watch their intake but that’s my opinion and my choice as to how I want to live out my life. For me this is a passion and I know it’s a very hot topic on MFP. It was time for me to respond, so thanks for reading!

And some studies have shown that long-term soda consumption is a major contributor to an unhappy pancreas!0

Doctors are not nearly as well versed in nutrition as patients, and the doc's themselves, think. Always do your own research which it looks like you did. Congratulations on taking control of your own health!0
