Exercising on hard floors (Laminate in this case)

We installed laminate floor about two months ago, and I did fine all through level 1 of 30DS, but level 2 is killing me. I have a yoga mat, which slips a bit, and my shoes don't grip the floor, so plank jacks in level 2 and the plank squats are near impossible, because I can't seem to grip with my feet. Does anyone have any tips or ideas? Maybe some recommended shoes that will grip the floor? I'm getting frustrated because I'm trying to give it my all, but those two moves are so crazy difficult and I have to keep the movements smaller than I want to because otherwise I land flat on my face.

Thanks for any advice you have!

I think they make socks (just google it) that are specifically for yoga, which help grip the mat or whatever surface you're on. These might help, and you might need to buy some of that nonslip carpet tape for your mat. I hope this helps!

socks are a good idea, but i would be afraid they'd slip around your feet, what about something like this? http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/index.htm

"performance rubber soles are razor-siped for flexibility and slip resistance over a variety of terrain."

What about an inexpensive 5x7 area rug? Some discount stores around here have them as low as $20 for commercial grade level loop. Even if you just roll it up and stick it in the closet when you're not using it, it's less expensive than getting new shoes. Heck, probably cheaper than some yoga matts!

These really made a difference for me in my pilates classes. Planks are waaaay easier when you're feet don't slide out from under you!

I have a rug, but then find that I slip during other things, like pushups. I tried the first couple of days on our rug, but it was miserable.

I was kind of thinking of these, but wanted to avoid the price, especially since I'm likely only ever going to use them for things like 30 Day Shred, you know? But it's a possibility!

I dont know if this will work on your shoes but go to the pet shop and get some paw wax I put it on my greyhounds feet to stop him slipping - its brilliant stuff

I have hard laminate flooring in my house; when I was doing 30S I would only use my mat for ground work all the other time I moved it aside (planks, pushups etc. ) I always wear shoes or bare feet. HTH

yep! i'm glad someone else suggested it before i did. these shoes are AMAZING and you can use them for so much more than just the shred. the classic and jaya models are on clearance for 30%+ off right now at rei, i'd definitely take a look at them. i don't wear regular shoes anymore since i bought my vibrams, they're that great :)

if all else fails, yoga socks work really well and the nonslip pads that you can put in your silverware drawer is also really cheap and easy to stick under your mat to keep from slipping :)

I just ordered some ToeSox - $15, then used a 20% off coupon (ShenLife), and shipping was $4..50. So $16.50 total. I hope they come quick!! Thanks everyone!

Yeah, I don't use my mat for a lot of the plank stuff, but my shoes have been slipping so bad on my floor. I have a pair of the Skechers Shape Ups but the lower profile ones, and the balls of my feet grip great, but I need to be able to grip with my toes. I think the socks will work brilliantly!
