The TV is ruining me!

Lately I have been having a huge problem with junk snacking while watching TV. It's like as soon as I sit down for more than 20mins in front of the TV I have this uncontrollable urge to rummage through the kitchen and find the worst possible thing to snack on.

Does anyone else do this? Any tips on how I can get this under control. It really doesn't help that my boyfriend buys huge amounts of icecream and chocolate that I can't seem to keep out of.

Try saving a small amount of your calories for the day for tv snacks! The 100 calorie snacks available these days are great and portion controlled. Nothing beats a 100 cal bag of smart pop!

Exercise while you watch TV. :)

No seriously. You'll get your exercise done, be entertained while it's being done, you'll burn calories, and suppress your appetite. Plus it's hard to eat ice cream when you're pumping iron or running on an elliptical?

    No equipment?

    Try this:

During commercial breaks do exercises as many as possible.

    1st break - jumping jacks
    2nd break - push-ups
    3rd break - crunches
    4th break - jump rope

    etc.... just some ideas.

Or buy some weights and add some shoulder presses, bent over rows, squats, lunges, etc....

    You won't like hearing this.
    GET RID OF YOUR TV!

And don't say it's not realistic - wrong! I had the exact issue, and in 1996, I got rid of TV and all was well.
And then it was watching movies on my computer - DVD's, Netflix...lol And playing games - there is much eating involved here.

I had to rid my life of all that clutter.

Nature abhors a vacuum, so that void had to be filled.

    Budget for them?
I have an open packet of chocolate here (mmm favourites) so after I log my dinner I double check that I have enough cals in the bank for two. :) And then I throw on a good show, pour a drink (sparkling mineral water, don't mind if I do!) and then rummage in the packet for which two chockies I want. :D

If i don't have enough cals for chocolates - I don't touch them. I just close my diary (once it's closed I can't add any more, yanno) and take myself to bed when I'm REALLY wanting one.

I exercise while I watch tv. Usually just a little thing with pedals that I set on the floor in front of me, but sometimes I'll do squats, lunges, tricep dips, crunches, jumping jacks, jogging in place... random little things so I'm not just sitting and zoning out.
