Give the following sentence some thought....
you WILL do whatever it is that you convince yourself that you CAN do.
As I have learned on my journey, so much of this journey is mind over matter...the mental side of things. I have had to convince myself that I could do a great many things on this journey....and once I convinced myself that I could do those things, I did them. Even at this point in my journey, as I can smell my scale weight goal (I have a larger goal of being healthy forever), I still have to convince myself that I CAN do several things. For example, here are some things I have had to tell myself that I CAN do so that I do them...
1. I was rocking along, running 3.5 miles at a time (a great accomplishment for me if you know my "lack of running" history). Thanks to seeing my friends push themselves, I finally told myself that I COULD run further. I told myself that 3.5 miles is nice, but why stay there when I COULD do more. Now I'm up to 5 miles at a time with a short term goal of getting to 6.2 miles so I can run a 10k race.
2. Even during my runs, I have to keep telling myself that I CAN accomplish the particular distance. That I CAN run the entire distance without stopping, and that I do not need to turn around earlier.
3. Even as I've trimmed down, I tell myself that I CAN get more toned...that I CAN get some form of definition in my abs....that I CAN get rid of certain flab that I'm still carrying....that I'm NOT going to accept where I am today simply because I'm much healthier than where I was in January. I CAN still make more progress and I WILL.
4. Even as Christmas is around the corner, I tell myself that I CAN continue being FIERCE this week and that I will not have pre-holiday letdown. I plan on enjoying the holiday, but I'm not going to spend 2 weeks enjoying it. I WILL NOT set myself back weeks just because its the holiday season. EFF THAT! I CAN be FIERCE this week and I WILL be FIERCE this week.
If we don't keep telling ourselves that we CAN do healthy, positive things, then its easier for the complacency creep to rent some space in your brain. Personally, I don't like renting to creeps.
Try it...spend some time convincing yourself that you CAN do positive things the remainder of 2011...and I bet you WILL accomplish those things
