Charcot Joint Disease?

Anyone have any experience with this one?
They recently diagnosed my dad with Charcot, he's been an insulin dependent diabetic for 30 years. He's currently in the hospital dealing with an ankle injury that was swollen up to nearly the size of a soccer ball. They're doing all they can to save his foot. Am having trouble finding enough information to read that doesn't require an MD degree to understand!
