Hello!

I am currently doing the 30 day shred whenever I can, and I never know how to put it into my Exercise diary since it isn't' actually labeled as that. Any help? Thank you! :):)

Log it as "circuit training, general." You can also make your own exercise called 30 Day Shred and assign the calories burned to it, then you'll know what it was in your diary.
  • Thank you! When I add my own exercise how do I know how many calories I do burn?

Use what comes up for circuit training as a guideline for what you'd burn in an hour. Just a note that I found MFP to be about 30% too high for me, once I got my HRM there's not question, but without that just be aware that it might be higher than your actual burn but it's a good place to start.
  • Thanks again! :):)

i found theirs was too high for me too. I just got a HRM too and i never burn over 200 for the whole dvd.
  • Well now I am nervous that it isn't doing as much for me as I would like.

I had an average calorie burn of 250 for the entire workout, including the warm up and cool down. If MFP is telling you more than that, it's over. To burn more than 10 calories per minute you have to work at a very high intensity - and 30DS is not it.

I think you'll find that you won't lose much weight - I lost 7 pounds and was doing extra cardio - but you'll lose inches. I lost 12" in my waist, hips and thighs. I also built up my endurance - I couldn't do the first set of jumping jacks without stopping when I started but by the end could do Level 3 with the advanced girl without stopping. So if you have those sort of expectations, it's doing what you expect.

i thought the same when i saw actually what i was burning.. it was at least 100 cals over on mfp. I thought.. well this isn't going to do anything for me, i might as well walk my treadmill.... WELL even though my calories burned is less and i haven't lost any weight due to the dvd i can tell you that INCHES are still coming off.... i have done it for 2 weeks and lost 1 inch off my hips, waist and 1.5 off my belly... I so can't wait to see what the next 2 weeks are going to bring!

I was thinking of 2 days a week doing elliptical and on my off days do the 30DsS DVD. Will this be enough? I just not sure how I should do it.

I burn anywhere from 175-250 per sessions, depending on the level and my effort that day. When I do all 3 back-to-back (78 minutes if I skip some of the stretching), I burn between 600-650.

How long does it take to finish part 1...?

The key to the 30 Day Shred is the burn after the workout! I would always burn about 200 calories during the workout but the muscles your toning are burning so much more for a few hours after. I lost 4 " in the first week alone.

I'm getting ready to start her Ripped in 30 since I was getting bored with the Shred. Just keep it up, it's the consistency that will do it for you!

10 days for each level, doesn't matter if you don't do them back to back (ie, interspersing with other exercise is fine, as is taking rest days). Maybe doesn't burn the most but will make you stronger and more confident :-)

Each workout level is about 27 minutes from start to finish if you do all the stretching (which you should). The idea is that you'll stick with each level for 10 days an then move on, but some people stick with a level longer if they feel they need to and some move on sooner if they don't feel challenged enough.

This type of workout is about building muscles, not just "losing weight"... wish people could see just how good of a workout this is when you add on MUSCLE... you're basically building in a FAT-BURNING mechanism in your body that ups your BMR. It's not all about the scales people. It's also about increasing your cardio endurance. When people do a bunch of cardio without ever working on their muscle, it's just you forcing your body to work hard all the time manually... build the muscle and you won't stay on the silly treadmill or spinning or whatever classes you take incessantly.

wow never thought of doing them back to back... that sure would be one killer workout.

I find it much more interesting and easier to keep going than getting on the treadmill (plus like pp said I appreciate that it works muscles that the treadmill doesn't touch LOL), so when I want to earn extra calories so I can eat more, I Shred more than necessary. :-) Doing different levels also keeps it more interesting rather than repeating the exact same routine. For awhile I did whatever level I was on twice in a row, then when I got to level 3 I figured it would be more interesting to do my level 3 workout first and then throw in another level.
  • 30 day shred is def. helping with the inches! and I feel amazing afterwards!

Both my bodybugg and Polar HRM show a calorie burn of 170-200. When I plug it in on mfp it says 285! I think a lot of ppl overestimate the burn. Regardless it's a hell of a workout

I've really been thinking of getting this. The way people talk it sounds like a good workout. I'd incorporate it into my current routine though.

It is definitely a good workout. A lot of people like to do it every day or every other day, but really you can work it in however it works for you.

I just got the dvd. I haven't started it yet. I ended up getting sick. I was thinking that I would do the dvd Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and go to the gym Tuesday, & thrusday. Since im only doing it 3days. And not in a row. Do I need to do it longer than 10 days.. im excited to start missing inches ...

The idea is to do each level for 10 sessions (10 total workouts for each level, not necessarily 10 calendar days), but hey if you feel level 1 is too easy and want to try out level 2, go for it! Work hard at it and make it work for you, too.

What number of weights do you use...

I did Level 1 for two days and got a little bored with it. I'm using 5 lb hand weights... but use whatever you want. I have a 10 lb kettlebell and I've considered using it once I get to level 3. I'm going to jump into Level 2 now since Level 1 was just not that hard for me.

Depends on what you are ready for. I was really badly out of shape when I started, and I started off having to alternate between 1 lb and 3 lb weights depending on the exercise. Then I was able to start working in my 5 lb weights for some exercises. Now I mostly use the 5 lb weights and bump down to 3 lb on occasion. I'm getting some 8 lb and 10 lb weights for Christmas so I can start moving up to those on my next round. :-) Some people that are starting off in better shape can start with higher weights, just depends on the person.
