Does working out before eating do anything? Or should you just workout after eating? Or maybe both?

If you workout after eating, I would suggest waiting an hour so you don't get sick..

There probably won't be a difference in fitness. There may be a difference in energy levels or feeling ill, depending on when you eat and what kind of workout you're doing.

I've been told it's good to eat a light snack before you work out (to have something to burn), and then eat a meal after you work out (to replenish what you lost).

I can't eat before I work out, because like the others said, I'll get sick.

I eat a banana about an hour before i go to the gym n then eat my meal when I get home. That helps me have the energy but not feel sick while training

Once I read that if you do a fasted workout in the morning, since the glycogen stores are low or depleted, you will tap right into the fat. Not sure how true or valid this is in the whole scheme of things. I used to do HIIT in the mornings, fasted, because it felt damn good to start the day that way. But as time went on, I went back to my old ways of hitting the snooze button. So the important thing is to exercise when you can and when it's most convenient to your schedule and lifestyle.

    I do both.
I eat a meal 1.5 hours before a resistance workout and right after.
I need that energy to max out my results, and I want full recovery afterward with a good solid feeding.

As for cardio, I have gotten results doing cardio in a fasted state early in the morning before a meal, then waiting an hour or so after a la Body For Life - Bill Phillips.

As some have mentioned, I am not sure about the science here, but I get results, and in my book, that's enough.

i can't do anything w/o eating first. just listen to your body. if i wake up and try to go to the gym w/o breakfast, i'll be sicker than a dog. i tend toward being sick in the mornings anyway, even before i started working-out. i have also heard that working-out on an empty stomach helps burn more fat, not sure if it's true, but i can't go w/o eating long enough to find out. LOL
