Can anyone recommend a good multigym for home use. For a family of four ranging from 5'7" to 6'2" under 14st in th UK thinking of getting one as a Xmas present though may wait till the January sales to actually purchase one.

Does no one have experience of home multigyms? I was looking at the York Equipment G101 from Argos but not sure if it would be worth it or if I should just stay with the gym. Benefit of the home gym would be my teenage boys might use it and they could do with some muscle building. Probably can only spend around £200 so not sure if I can afford the quality of gym I would want.

If I had space, it's not a multi gym that I would buy, but rather a power cage a bench and a barbell. Possibly one of the best investments in your teenage boys muscles that anyone could make. But unfortunately they are quite pricey.

My experience with friends that over the years had multi gym's, is that they all ended up un-used and eventually sold on or dumped.

I get the impression people aren't keen on multigyms. What would you recommend as the best minimum set of strength equipment to have at home. I'm now within 10lbs of goal and feel i should be switching from cardio to strength to start working on my flabby abs and arms.

The power cage is interesting but I wouldn't have a clue how to use it. My husband is keen on strength building equipment and wants to do bench presses etc, but this can be dangerous if done with just a straight barbell which is why we were thinking the multigym might be better.

Would we be better with a set of dumbells and a chair?

Did you buy the G101 home gym? I've just been given one. No instructions with it, so I was after tips on what I can do with it. So far I've figured out I can do chest press (awkward angle on the hands and wrists though, not quite like at the gym), and lats and biceps with the overhead handle.

Not sure you would get much quality for that kind of money.
A good set of dumbbells might be a better bet, can add a bench or gym ball to add to the variety of exercises. I used fitness-superstore.co.uk, good prices and quick delivery.
