It can. Strength training helps it and eating clean.
  • It depends on a lot of factors such as sun damage to your skin, if you are a smoker, your age, your genetics, if you have yo-yo dieted in the past, if you have stretch marks (indicative of poor skin elasticity), how long you were overweight, how quickly you are losing weight, etc. You are young so that is in your favor. It will definitely shrink and improve as you lose weight and exercise daily. It can take up to 2 years after a large weight loss to improve hanging skin. Mine has improved dramatically in the last 22 months.

I have lost 21lbs in 175 days and whilst it is definelty there i did realise the other day that it is nowhere near aas bad as it was, the key does be to go slowly, i am not expecting miracles but if it shrinks some more i will be very happy

My belly was pretty big after two babies (relatively, compared to before). Now that I've significantly reduced my body fat, my belly is quite a bit smaller. It's taken a full year of reduced calories and dedication to my workout regime.

I ran for the first 9 months, and did weights but then I started getting more serious about the weights and doing less cardio, now my body fat is really reducing, and so is my belly fat finally. Hard work and dedication has really changed the way my body looks. You can do it... set your mind to do it and it will happen over time!

Good luck on the journey, you will love your new body because you worked so darn hard for it!!!!
  • At age 57 I have lost 145 pounds in the past 21 months. When people learn about my weight loss they can't believe I was that fat.
I don't have much hanging excess skin. I did have some around my waist but It is going away nicely, just a little left to go. The fat just under the skin is the last to go. One key is you don't want to lose more that 2 pounds per week.
One thing I recommend to help tighten the skin is rebounding. I bought a Belicon rebounder and use it every day. NASA and the US Air-force did a study and found that rebounding is the best exercise devised by man. Find out more about rebounding here:
http://www.bellicon-usa.com/ It will tighten the skin and help you lose the overhang. Read my blog for more information.

Once you started loosing weight did you notice it 'drop'?

mine seems like its sagging more then normal so I see that as a good sign that I am loosing fat out of that part but my skin will take longer to catch up...

This is just my own rambling tho...

I have a sort of pouch under my belly button. You can't really see it in my pic but when I squat it literally folds a bit over my waistband. I hate it. Its gone down quite a bit but I basically work out with my own bodyweight and a sandbag. I used to have a 33" waist and now I have a 25". Its more so that I have extra flesh.
Most of the women in my family have small frames with a big belly, totally apple shape. I guess its genetics on my part.

    DOES IT GO DOWN?

    Yes. But...
    1. Lose weight slow. Eat right, good, clean food and let your body determine how fast you should lose it.
    2. Skin is an amazing organ. It can stretch to an enormous size, so it can shrink. Give it time
    3. Because skin is an organ, it needs to be (a) fed with good clean food (b) hydrated with plenty of liquids, like water
    4. Moisturized with lotion. (I am not certain about my statement. Many people mention this). I put lotion on mine once in a while

Take your time. If you are like me and it took you years to gain weight, the reversal process is just as slow. Good luck!!
