p90x looks way more intense. I have been doing the 30 day shred and it's hard at first but it gets easier and I've been losing weight and lots of inches. Plus it's only 10 dollars!

I'm in the middle of P90X. I'm loving it, but it can be a hard workout. Like with any workout, you can adjust your level of effort to match your level of fitness. The only problem I'm having is fitting it into my schedule. I can't do it every day, but I do it as often as I can. I just finished phase 1, and will start phase 2 soon. I can definitely feel an effect.

i've done both workouts. 30 Day Shred is a good full body program, but most people make the mistake of trying to do it everyday. It's not meant for that. If you do 30 Day Shred, you should break up the week with her yoga meltdown DVD. To get a good stretch and to give your muscles a break. It has three levels to run through and it's a bargain for $10 bucks. Jillian is very motivating in the DVD and is not screaming in your face.

I prefer P90X. It's a 90 day program and comes with 12 DVD's. It's a full program for plyometrics, upper body, core training, legs, yoga and ab work. I've done this program six times through and am getting reading to start P90X2 in January.

    Intensity level does differ.

I have done both, personally found 30 day shred boring. I am also not a big fan of Jullians style. So that made it harder to enjoy.

P90X - has many more DVDs, more variety, also more equipment needed (pull up bar, bands or weights) I found this more satisfying personally, I also had much better results, in the first 30 days.

I have since done this program about 7 times, gave my 30 day shred away to a friend.
  • I have been doing the CardioX DVD from the p90x set someone burned for me and gave me the schedules. I've been doing it two times a week since beg of December and going to the gym four times a week (mainly cardio focused) for the past eight months. I am wanting to start p90x Jan1st, but I am a bit hesitant since some of the CardioX alone is hard to keep up with, like the Dreya roll (OMG). Do you think people starting out should start with 30 Day Shred and then go to p90X to build endurance first or just go straight for p90x? I feel like if I go straight for p90x that I won't get what I should out of it because it will be too much so quickly.
  • I haven't tried P90X, but I did complete the 30DS over the summer. One of the main differences I have been hearing is the weight loss. I didn't lose a large amount of weight on the 30DS BUT I really toned up and my endurance was great when I returned to my normal workouts. You only have to commit about 30minutes each day AND you can even find some free downloads of the workouts online if you want to try it beforehand.

well .. the shred is only 20 mins. P90 isn't, is it? plus it's got those damn chin ups... no I don't know, I've only done the shred.
The shred is challenging but do-able. Really all exercises from gym class - just NO resting between & jillian doesn't accept slacking like your gym teacher did

I've tried both. They are SO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

30 Day - 20 minute workout. A good total(ish)-body workout, but a quick one. I continue to do the Shred on days I can't fit in a longer workout.

P90X - mostly 75 minute workouts. Good workouts that focus on a couple of body parts at a time. You completely burn out those parts and get to rest them for the rest of the week as you focus on the other body parts/workouts. I found P90 pretty man-focused. You do A LOT of push-ups & pull-ups.
  • I haven't tried p90x but from what I've seen it looks way crazy. I would try that.

I have only done the 30 day shred, haven't done p90x personally but I get the impression that 30DS is better for people more on a beginner level and p90x is more intense and maybe better for people looking to bump it up a bit? 30DS is definitely a good workout, especially if you're short on time, and you can double up on levels if you want to do more or use higher weights. But some people that are already in pretty good shape may not feel very challenged and could get bored. For me it was VERY challenging, especially at the beginning, but for someone in better shape they might need something even more intense.
  • Maybe I will go ahead and start 30DS first on Jan 1st and see how I feel when its done towards doing p90x! lol. Someone told me about DVD's called The P.I.N.K. Method that's supposed to be like p90x for women, but I can't buy just the dvd's and I don't want to buy the whole food book and all. Maybe they will be on Ebay in a few months when someone gives up on their New Year's Resolution. (I am dreading the gym the first 1.5 months of 2012 because of that-ughhh-overcrowded!!!)
