I'm looking for a beginner's pilates video. Are there any that people would recommend for total beginners? The class at my gym is always super full and so I would like to try something in the comfort of my own home before I attempt the very busy and very intense looking class. Also are there any tools, bands, etc needed? I have a yoga mat but that's about it.

I think that Jonathan Urla is a good Pilates instructor. I have his Pilates series and two Yogilates. I don't like yoga, but because of Jonathan's teaching method, I was going to try his Yogilates one day.

Check out this clip for his Pilates and the City - Beginners Workout: You can buy this workout from Amazon. You can use a yoga block or whatever those things are called.

I have other Pilates workouts that's not really for beginners. I'm not an advance person. You can view these on collagevideo.com or youtube:"

    1. Bernadette Giorgi: Attitude Ballet & Pilates Fusion

    2. 10 Minute Solution: Slim & Sculpt Pilates Kit w/ 2 Toning Bands: You can buy this one from Walmart. It comes with one band.

    3. Weight Loss Pilates with Kristin McGee

    4. Crunch Deluxe Pilates Workout Collection. I've bought mine as a set from Amazon. They sell them separately as well. Ellen Barrett is the instructor. She has other Pilates workouts too.

I hope you find a good Pilates workout that you can do.

Search for Pop Pilates on YouTube - they're free and Cassie's a great teacher. There's all different levels of videos and all you really need is a mat for most of them.

I would highly recommend Winsor Pilates by Mari Winsor. I have owned the DVD's for several years, and I still enjoy doing them. I bought a set with a 20 minute DVD, and then several other DVD's such as legs, abs, and advanced. I know that it probably wasn't exactly legal for whomever posted them, but you can try part of these DVD's out on Youtube before you purchase them. Just search "Winsor Pilates 20 minute workout" and there will be a part 1 and a part 2. I think you will love it, I sure have!

In terms of equipment, I have seen various pieces advertised but I have never used any other than a pilates mat which is quite a bit thicker than a yoga mat. If you have your yoga mat on carpet you should be fine though.

Good luck! I will be perfectly honest and tell you that pilates can be quite boring but it sure produces results!!!
