Back and Posture

So I have really bad posture and I feel this is why my back hurts sometimes. I have been trying to improve my posture to make sure my back is erect and in the natural curves, but starting to fix it, it hurts a bit, Is it a bad thing to fight through the pain to condition myself to have better posture?
Also what are some ways to better my posture, like I know sitting on an exercise ball is good for your core, but does it also aid your posture?
Thanks

Being aware is probably the best way.0

i used to get back/shoulder pain just lying on my couch for too long.
after a couple months of Strong Lifts 5x5 and increasing the strength and muscles in my back, all my back troubles are gone.0 -
Anything that strengthens your core is going to simultaneously help with your posture.0
