HIGH ARCHES ANYONE??

Hello My MFPers,

I have extremely high arches in my feet. I have used supportive shoes and arch supports etc but I still get this burning above my ankles when doing cardio. It is not the "working this muscle" burn it is like pre-injury burn. Common sense says stop doing it, so often I modify it or do a totally different exercise to keep moving, but I wondered if anyone else has had this issue and if they have resolved it?

I know good shoes are important, but no matter what shoes I use it is still doing this. I wasn't always over weight so I am not sure if this will be a temporary barrier or long term. I find it becoming a barrier to cardio or makes me stop short.

Suggestions??

As a dancer, I have had to deal with this problem before. Ballet has actually changed the shape of my feet so my arches are pretty crazy.

If your problem is that serious, the best way to go would be to get some custom-made shoes or insoles. Unfortunately, that route's really expensive. I find that using non-custom insoles designed for high-arched people works for me, but it sounds like you've tried them already. Hmm. In any case, mine are from here: http://www.orthoticshop.com/high-arch-insoles/

I agree with the person who suggested that you stretch or warm up before doing cardio. If you're not doing that, you should be.

I have high arches too and absolutely cannot exercise barefoot or it feels like my arch is going to snap inside. My dad has to wear insoles in all of his shoes. I don't know if it will get worse as I get older or what. I hope not! I hope yours gets better the more you get used to exercise! I have heard that the "Superfeet" insoles work really well, but I have never tried them myself.

I'm going to try it. I thought about buying cross trainers but they're really gummy and stick so much I couldn't do tae-bo or zumba with that much grip at the bottom of my shoes. I need cross trainer support with zumba shoe bottoms...

What are your shoes designed for? I have really high arches and excellent fitted running shoes, but they did me no favours at all when doing anything like circuit training or Zumba with lateral movements. I had to get a separate pair of cross-trainers.

I have very high arches and have always found it difficult to find good workout shoes because of it, especially when I used to run. But I've never experienced ankle pain. But I hike quite a bit so my ankles are pretty strong.

Do the shoes you wear during aerobics support your arch?
