HELP! I'm at the end of day 2 clean eating but have 500 calories to hit my goal for today. I'm struggling for snack ideas. Can anyone suggest high calorie 'clean' food? Keeping in mind it's suppose to be a snack. So crazy to have to ask...usually I struggle to stay under!

Foods to restrict:
Nuts or seeds
Diary

Foods to Avoid
Legumes
Peas
Corn
Potato
Rice
Wheat
Soy
*Anything pre-packaged or processed including lunch meats

Makes it hard for snack options, doesnt it!

Not trying to be rude because your food choices are your own, but do you think you can sustain this diet long term?

In regards to your question maybe an avocado or banana can help?

Have you stopped to question why you'd choose a diet that forces you to avoid such a long list of great food sources?

Avocado would be my choice based on your list.

the basic premise of the diet is to eliminate any gluten from the diet which many ppl are allergic to and focus more on protein/fat from natural sources now there is a lot to be said for upping veggie intake and eating a clean diet but I do not believe in restricting the diet rather moderating what we choose to get our nutrition from and have done just fine. If you are attempting to determine if you have a gluten allergy then yes this can be a good way to determine that, otherwise what diet you choose to use should be a lifestyle choice not something that you find to hard to maintain due to its restrictions.

Nuts are fine on Paleo, just not peanuts as they are a legume. Nuts are nutritious and filling.
have you thought about some Jerky? again filling.
Boil up a dozen eggs and have them a s a snack. Ham? cold chicken legs?
All vegetables, and meats...do you like olives?
If you eat enough food during meal time you shouldn't really need too many snacks
  • Google Paleo snack ideas you will find a lot of ideas :)

Thanks guys! Not meant to be a long term thing. Just wanted to get rid of this bloating from all my work partes and to leave myself wriggle room for all the Christmas festivties to come! I'm also heading to Vietnam and Camobdia early January and don't want to count calories or feel like a bloated frump in my bikini!

But I must say... I am enjoying this clean eating much more than I thought! Get to eat waaaay more food, never hungry or crave anything. Maybe after Chrissy I will decide to keep some aspects of it around or go primal or just do paleo 80% of the time.

Don't knock it till at least you've tried it!
  • If you make a steak, you can cut it into thin strips and stick it in the fridge for later - then you have little steak snacks! (bonus: make a dip to go with them: http://girlgoneprimal.blogspot.com/2010/02/recipe-dip-de-dip-de-dip.html)

Or you can make Kale chips - season small kale leaves with whatever you want (oil and vinegar and salt, for example) then bake them. They turn into things that resemble chips.

Here's a paleo chips and dip recipe: http://livingwithhealthyhunger.com/2011/03/14/paleo-chips-dips/

Lots of options if you get creative :D
  • I've found a great high protein snack with good fat. I buy grass fed beef sticks from US Wellness meats. They are don't have nitrates, gluten, high fructose corn syrup or MSG I call them my candy bars.
You can find them here: http://www.grasslandbeef.com
    Enjoy.
