Night shift and Alcohol

I'm new to all of this. I've never really had an extreme weight problem, I just always have extra weight that I want to get rid of most of it from after the birth of my kids. I'm on the high end normal for the BMR. Anyway, I'm back in school full-time and I work full-time nights so my posterior is expanding more rapidly than I wish it to! If I don't get this under control soon I will be in the overweight BMR range and the biggest thing is that I want to be healthy.

That being said... I like to have a few beers or a glass of wine or 2 over the weekends with dinner to relax and unwind. I especially enjoy this with friends and family, it's just the way we unwind and I really don't want to give it up. I enjoy pairing wines and beer with food and I love to cook. I don't feel that we over do it, but how much is this impacting my weight loss? How much does working nights and never getting the proper sleep affect it too? Any ideas?
