I've read it somewhere and can't find it back again....but I read that the optimal time to eat your breakfast is 30 minutes or so after your feet hit the floor (after waking up)

I'd like to remember why they said that is.

Has anyone else heard this theory, do you remember "why" they say that?

I left you with lots of information to go on.....I know right?

Thanks for any input.

i have heard this also........from what i remember, some people say it is to rev up your metabolism. Not sure if it is true. I don't eat till at least 2-3 hours after getting up. No hunger!

    It is false.

Meal timing and/or frequency does not have any direct impact on metabolism. Thermic effect of food is based on macronutrient composition and total calories.

Short Answer: Time your meals based on personal preference and athletic performance. Disregard the rest of the BS.

The great irony about the breakfast myth is that people actually argue that forcing yourself to eat when you're not hungry helps weight loss.

And another thought on this, Just because it is mealtime, if you are not hungry, maybe you don't need to eat. I grew up in a household that food was freely available, so I could eat when I wanted. (self control and esteem issues caused over eating). Some of my friends grew up in houses where they had to eat at a certain time or the food was put away. They simply developed the same problem later in life.

Unfortunately I'm hungry most of the time.

It actually works better for me to eat then, but I remembered that article and wondered why they said that was a good thing. I'll have to check out the links Elizabeth posted and get right with the details.

    Thanks all!

Unfortunately, there's a lot of of psuedoscience articles out there about weight loss. The truth of it is that if you eat less than your burn in a day, you will lose weight. It's all about the thermodynamics. What you choose to eat affects how much nutrition you get (macronutrients and micronutrients), so that is up to you to decide.

Now, if eating more frequently helps keep you full and keeps you on track, then by all means go for it! Don't believe that you have to do this to keep your metabolism up or to lose weight is all.

There are dozens of articles on PubMed about this and other things, so check them out. I just posted two.

    Here are a couple more:
