Good Cookie Cutter Recipe

I just attempted to make Christmas cookies this afternoon. You know the kind that you cut out with the different cutters? I used Disney's recipe, (http://family.go.com/food/recipe-ak-800775-cutout-cookies-t/) and they turned out terrribblleeee. I don't know if my kitchen is too hot but every time I would lift the cookies up to transfer them to the pan, they just swished up and got all poo - poo.

Does anyone have experience making these cut out cookies? I followed the recipe and even split the dough into two balls instead of one since it made a LOT of dough. I refrigerated it for 30 mins, then an 1hr and still same results. The dough's in my freezer currently. Does anyone have a better recipe or some tips?
