Has anyone heard of "wogging"??

It's alternating intervals of walking/jogging. I have seen it in a few different magazines and I have been trying it this week. I was just wondering if anyone has had results from it?? I'd love to hear anyone's success stories!!

Well, I didn't know the name of it, but that's what I did when I first started running. I'd run/walk/run/walk as long as I could.

    Each day I got better.

    Now, I'm running 4-5 miles a day!
  • I've never heard of it, but yesterday I went for a long walk and decided to see how far I could jog. I kept up a steady jog for at least 1 minute straight! And I did it twice! I was so proud of myself. When I first started exercising I couldn't even go for 15 seconds without getting out of breath.

I did the same thing- run for 1-2 minutes, then brisk walk, run, walk, etc. I'm up to a comfortable 2-3 miles a day. 4-5 miles are my LONG days!LOL:grumble:  Depending on the effort you're exerting, you could also look at this as interval training- get your heart rate up, mild recovery, up, recovery, etc.

Less impact on your joints then running and all the benefits of walking.

I am really glad to hear this. I am planning on starting jogging/running as soon as the weather breaks a little. I have been walking 3.5-4 MPH on my treadmill and trying to up it a little each week. Thanks for the tip.
  • Well, I haven't really been "jogging" per se, but I've been doing 3.2 on the treadmill for 2 minutes, jump up to 4.2 for two minutes then back down to 3.2 for a total of 40 minutes. But yes, it seems as though you're tricking your body. I can walk at 4.0 for a 40 min straight w/o breathing heavier (I'm 5'11" so I have a long stride) but when I jump back and forth I feel my breath being a little more labored my heart rate goes up and I seem to sweat more. I'm going to continue with it for the week to see if my results are different from previous weeks.

And P.S. Last week I jogged for the first time in YEARS!!!! 2 minutes, twice!!!

I've been doing it while preparing myself to run. It's fun, it feels FANTASTIC and I burn as many calories as I do on that stupid easy elliptical! Haha.

Well, considering your FANTASTIC results, I can assume it works then?? Way to go on your success!!! :drinker:

:smooched: Awww, thanks!! I've hit a HARD and SOLID plateau (separating from my husband, eating my emotions, binging.... just trying to maintain right now). However, before my eating started getting out of control, I was seeing great continued weight loss with the addition of interval running.

My best friend is considerably smaller than I am (in the mid-120s) and just started interval running too. She said she is now seeing her abs!!!

    ditto.

Intervals are way more effective than just doing one thing constantly.
