Wii fit balance board - fixed!

I've had wii fit and used it off and on to work out for 3 years now, but it kept giving an error advising that it had lost connection with the wii balance board, and to power off and on again to reconnect. I'd tell you the exact error message but now I've fixed it so can't quote
I looked online REPEATEDLY, tried all of the suggestions - replaced the batteries, disconnected everything wireless, turned the wiimote away from the receiver... didn't help. In desperation I took the thing to bits and tried all of the connections. I finally got annoyed enough to take the thing to bits.
How to fix it if you have this issue:
Remove the base of the board, including the feet. Note there are 4 screws under the silver warning sticker.
Look at the power button, you will see that it is made up of a soft button that actually passes the signal through, and the plastic bit that you push and it presses the soft button. Remove the plastic bit as it's super-wobbly, and my best guess is that stepping off and on the board was occasionally wiggling it enough to press the power button. Put the base and feet back on, you can still turn on the power using the soft button (and long nails or a pencil).
I have just played wii fit boxing 3x in a row with no disconnections! I don't think I ever got the whole way through a workout before without having to reset it

It also seems to have fixed that thing in advanced step where you step on and off sideways, and it gives you a fail. What do you mean, you don't think I stepped off... I'm not on, where else could I be????? Anyway, fixed0
