My wife and I bought one of those panini / sandwich / multi purpose grilling machines this week after seeing it advertised on tv. Comes with 2 flat plates for normal griddle stuff like pancakes and also comes with two grill plates. You can use the machine closed as a sandwich press, partially open, or open 180 degrees flat to use like a big grill or griddle.

Tonight we used it for the first time and just did burgers. Simple patties with salt and pepper. Used the two grill plates and closed the lid like a panini. Since it cooks from both sides they were done to 160 degree internal temp in about 7 minutes. The grease and oil drained off into a little drip tray. Very easy to clean. Burgers turned out great. Fast enough to use for a quick lunch and now that winter is here in Chicago we don't have to go outside to fire up the grill.

Overall we're pretty happy with it. One downside is they don't include waffle plates with it. When we got home and opened the box there was a pamphlet inside that says we can order the waffle plates online. Looked into it but the waffle plates online cost almost 1/2 as much as the whole machine. I wrote a letter to the company complaining about that, we'll see if they respond.

Interesting. How much was the entire device?

We have a panini grill, too, but ours isn't one sold by a retired boxer. No drip tray, and no angled surfaces, so we pretty much only use it for sandwiches and quesadillas, and even then, it gets plenty of use. I do wish for detachable grill plates, though.

the in-laws have the retired boxer grill, and they seem to use it quite a bit.

The one we have is currentlyy being advertised on tv (at least in the Chicago area). The name has something to do with the Art of french Cuisin  ..not made by a retired prizefighter.

Yep, the plates come off super easy so we can run them thru the diswasher. Unit sits flat on the counter. it must have a minor angle built it but you don't notice it.

Was $99 at the retail store that sells things for bedrooms and bathrooms, and things beyond as well. We also had a 20% off coupon.

Ah, yes. We call that one Big Box O' Bath Crap, because we can never remember which one is close to our house.
