Punching a heavy bag for cardio

New to MFP: I am looking for guidance on this type of exercise. It seems as if the calorie burn calculator estimates the impact of hitting a heavy bag a bit too high. My workout is vigorous, often spending at least 15 minutes in the anaerobic zone with an average beat per minute in the 160's. I always use a Polar HRM. I box 12 timed 3 minute rounds, on a 100lb bag with 16OZ gloves. I use the minute in between rounds to do as many push-ups as I can on the pegs of my incline sit-up bench. I go 50 minutes with the total # of push-ups in the 200's. The calculator says 439 calories burned, but I feel it might be overstated due to the anaerobic zone time. Any thoughts?

why use the MFP calculator if youalways use a polar?0

My polar only calculates heart rate, not calories burned0

Like the comment earlier the HRM has your calories and that's the most precise deal. Use the Monitor. I do a lot kickboxing with my bag MFP is fairly good. The numbers may not be that far off.0

I didn't see your comment. If you have the heart rate you can used mfp to help you base on your averages.Like the comment earlier the HRM has your calories and that's the most precise deal. Use the Monitor. I do a lot kickboxing with my bag MFP is fairly good. The numbers may not be that far off.0

ok...well until you upgrade, a good average for cardio and push ups for me is about 10 cals per minute...then subtract 1.3 per minute to account for your normal burn0

Thanks, That helps alot. Maybe a new HRM is in my future0

You can manually calculate your burn {not specific};
Divide your heart rate by your maximum rate to calculate the percentage of the maximum rate.
Multiply your maximum-rate percentage by three to calculate oxygen consumption in liters per minute. Three liters of oxygen per minute is an average maximum consumption (VO2 max) number. If you know your VO2 max, use that number instead of multiplying by three.
Multiply the liters of oxygen consumed per minute by five to determine number of calories burned per minute at that heart rate.0 -

the polar ft4 is a great model for measuring your heart rate and calories burned.0
