I have been on my weight loss journey since July. And I have lost over 60 lbs since....and a lot of that is just from changing the way I eat and what I eat.

But.....nights like tonight, some times makes me face the reality of where I was. I made dinner and just out of instinct, I made the amount of food I always used to make. There was no thinking, I just did it. And I served myself a serving. Sat down and ate my food. I ate maybe 1/2 of what I served myself and I was full. I went to throw away the food (not something you can have as a leftover) and realized how much food was still left in the pot.

I thought about 2 things.

1) How much food I am wasting tonight because I am throwing it all away and I didn't think when I was making it.

2) How 6 months ago, I used to be able to eat everything that was on my plate, plus serve myself a second serving. That is why I didn't worry about wasting food back then, I ate it all.

Crazy to think about where I was....and where I am today. And I have no intention of going back

Keep up the good work! I haven't done that (what you described) but I have grabbed for food I shouldn't be eating ... I used to be fond of Slim Jim's and Pepperoni sticks. Sometimes, I get one. That happened at work last week. Midway through it, I looked at the nutrition label and threw half of it in the garbage. :)

Congratulations on your realization... and look, when you are finally able to get a handle on your amounts that you cook - look at your grocery savings! I love my savings all the way around ($ and nutritional).

That's interesting...isn't it a great feeling when you're legitimately full though? Congrats!

Gratz on that NSV, you are making significant progress on the road. Overeating is a killer and once we tune into our bodies they often tell us that we were overdoing it. Slow down you're moving to fast is an anthem for those of us that ate without thinking. Also from the "clean your plate" generation. Good luck on your continued successes in the new year.

Unfortunately, I can't cook. My hubby does all our cooking... but I have to tell him all the time about portions. He continues to make larger portions sometimes and I eat 1/2 of it and give the rest to him.

But you are so correct -- portion control is a huge part of weight loss. The other part, of course, is making smart choices about what we put in our mouth and when we put it in our mouth  ... LOL - it's all important~

Oh this is me totally! I always served myself the same amount I served my hubby and my 17 year old son. Both of whom are very physical and are bean poles. No wonder I gained weight!

Portion control has been the #1 thing that has helped me lose my weight. It's crazy to think if we just knew this before!!

Fantastic! Great NSV! I wonder too, how long until our thoughts align with our bodies and all the work we've done?
