Tonight I was hungry after no food literally all day. I had not eaten since 6 pm yesterday so i was pretty much ready to bite someones head off. Well I go to grab something to eat and my sister called me a pig even though it was a small snack. She literally called me fat all night and my mother didn't say one word to her. My sister knows I hadn't eaten and that ive lost a lot of weight so idk what the issue is with her. Shes super skinny even after a kid. But as soon as I tell my sister to back off I get yelled at by my mom and she defends my sister. What gives? My mom isn't skinny and is bigger than me so she should know how I feel but I'm the one who has to get brought down? Wheres my support?

Your mother is wrong and your sister is wrong and sometimes dealing with family is just a wretched drag. Try to not let them get you down. Your sister may feel threatened by your weight loss - she may feel her thinness makes her superior to you so if you're losing weight, you're threatening that superiority. Your mom may be jealous. I'm glad MFP is here for you.
Sorry you went all day without food, too. That's never good. Here's hoping tomorrow is a better day.0 -
I'm so sorry you have to deal with this sweetheart. Nobody has the right to make you feel bad about yourself, and nobody has the right or power to decide what you put in your body but you. Keep your head high and stay strong as hard as it is. You're beautiful and strong and you've come so far! Don't give your sister the satisfaction of taking that pride away from you.0

You can pick your nose, but you can't pick your family. That's how that goes, right?
Your mother and sister are wrong and I'm sorry you're dealing with that - it can be incredibly frustrating. Keep your chin up and know that what you're doing is right for you - you are learning healthy habits, which will benefit you in the long-term.0 -
Sisters are a funny relationship. I think maybe your sister worries you will be maybe smaller than her with your weight.
I dont know you and i am not trying to make any assumptions. But for instance, i used to eat when i was upset and angry. If that is how you are, your sister might be saying such things to get you to eat more for fear of you becoming smaller than her. Or maybe she doesn't know how to deal with your success. Sometimes seeing other people accomplish big things makes us angry, annoyed and jealous at our lack of success.
But either way, you have no fault in the matter. You shouldn't let it bother you. When people treat us wrong they know that they have. If you know that you did nothing wrong i wouldn't not let it worry you. That person knows what they did. It will bother them. It should not bother you.
Smile:) its family. They love you. Sometimes they just have weird ways of showing it:)0 -
I hope that you guys are right. I feel like they want me to get fat again based on their comments. Half the time I don't get hungry because of my Topamax and they know it, but I run and mountain bike, snowboard and ski. Plus a bunch of other sports that help me get healthy. When I eat it usually is healthy.0

I agree! People will feel threatened and jealous on your weightloss journey. When I was teenager and lost a lot of weight and I finally got to a healthy weight, I got a lot of negativity from family and friends. Most people feel uncomfortable with change, especially when they are not the ones making changes. Keep your head up! You are doing a wonderful job. People will always have stupid things to say, its how you react to it thats important. Don't ever give anyone the power to make you feel bad about yourself.0 -
If I were you in that situation:
Sister: hey sis, do u want some food?? Its good to taste things once in a while. (I have more to say but that's enough for on here)
Mother: it would be great to have your support now and in past. In the past it would have been a great stepping stone to have proper eating habits made and now it would be great to have your support in me trying to make those habits now.0 -
To me this situation seems unreal. The way this situation is described you it sounds like are Cinderella with an evil mom and sister who don't want to see you succeed. Are you SURE your sister wasn't being sarcastic/ironic (because you are working so hard and it was obvious to everyone that you DESERVED and needed to eat at that time) and making a joke that you didn't pick up on because you were a little sensitive/guilty already?0

siblings can be weird. i have a brother about 18 months younger then me, and when we're together i never know how he's going to be. is he going to have his sense of humor, or is he going to be mean? worst is when he's being sensitive.
lol, one time we were out, and he had his shirt unbottened so low, you could see his wife-beater and his chest hair was going crazy, and then the cross on the chain just sealed it i was going to make fun of him. i didn't go with the easy jersey shore joke, so i told him "tommy, your collar is so deep, its studying eastern philospohy in college." he effing lost it. yelled at me about making fun of him to make myself feel better. i left it alone and barely talked to him the rest of the day.
he seemed to have forgotten about the week before when i took him to a new york rangers game for his birthday, and he teased me for wearing a cowboy-esque shirt. he told me "noooooo, next week is when the garden is hosting the bull riding championships." it was funny, and i laughed it off. we had a great time and no one's feelings got hurt.
but like i said, siblings can be weird. sometimes in open competition, sometimes best friends, and some times worst enemies. just be the bigger person, and you'll always come out ahead. younger siblings are the worst though. they know just how to get you in trouble.0 -
Do me a favor, do not stop eating. The weight you are losing will not stay off. I can see the pressure you are under with your family. Stay strong, but stay smart. Diet the right way and when you get to your goal, you won't have to diet, you just have to maintain with is still a struggle, but if you have learned how to eat correctly along the way, it won't be a problem. Good luck.0

I know my sister wasn't joking. Shes been mean like this for years to the point she was put in saint Mary's for giving me a concussion when I told her no. She has mental issues that no one seems to care about. Its me that has issues if I bring up how they find her perfect and she can do no wrong no matter how she treats me.
As for me not eating all day, when i do eat, I eat enough calories. It doesn't matter if i eat my calories all at once or in three meals as long as I get them in. My doctors said I'm healthy. My Topamax just makes me not hungry though but I cant stop taking it or ill die.0 -
My siblings do the same...my sister is overweight and eats like crazy....but yet she weighs less than me v.v and my brother eats like crazy but works out alot .....and he makes comments all the time....his latest favorite is to bring up that im soo fat i broke the toilet seat v.v siblings are hard to get along with sometimes but they are family ...and my mom says things like your sister did to me sometimes.....sorry you're sister is soo rude...just ignore her....you know the situation and you know she is just being mean.0

Your mom and your sister are rude and out of place. I wonder if your sister is the youngest? My brother is the youngest and my mother babies him and always defended everything he did and said. It was the same story as yours. He's be so obnoxious to me and the one time I'd step up to defend myself I'd get in trouble. It was bullcrap and it's the reason today my brother acts so immature and obnoxious and I don't speak to him. Keep doing what you are doing. You know you are doing the right thing. You're on the right track. What goes around comes aroung and if that's how they wanna act karma will get them. Just remember you are doing the right thing and it's too bad they can't be more supportive but just stay dedicated because it's your life here and you need to be happy and healthy. Good job! Don't let them get to you! Don't let anyone bring you down. You rock!0

Thank you guys. And no actually I'm the baby of the house but i've never been treated as such. Even when my sister brings up the fact I wasn't supposed to be born she doesn't get crap ( my dad was fixed but operation didn't work). I should be used to it but it still hurts.0
