Question - Hiking with HRM

Merry Christmas!
Santa brought me a Polar FT4 (yay) and I have a silly question ...
We go hiking a lot, so do I wet the electrodes and put the strap on first before I drive the 15 mins to our hiking spot?? Or should I wait until I get up there and put the strap on just before we start?
Might be a silly question, but I couldn't find the answer on the website or the you tube videos I watched - most seemed to be using it in the gym, right away....
Thanks in advance for your help! :drinker:

Either way will work... I mean I go to a gym, so I put mine on right before i start.
If it's summer and I go for a walk around the neighborhood, then I'll put it on right before I walk.0 -
Whenever I've gone hiking I've always just put the HRM when I got dressed to go, sometimes spent 1-2 hours in the car driving with it on, so I'd say no big deal.0

I have wet mine and then got sidetracked for a bit before working out, then exercised for an hour or more with no problems. I would think it would most likely be fine if you want to do it before you go. But you could also bring a bottle of water with you to do it when you get there or to re-wet the strap if you notice it's having trouble reading your heartrate.0

Perfect! Thank you everyone!0

As long as the strap is tight enough you should be ok, I've had a couple of occasions where I've cooled down and lost the connection and sometimes if you're out in public it can be a bit tricky to wet the sensors. Unless you're an exhibitionist! Lol!!
I love my P4!! It's the best thing I ever bought.0
