 I've been working on this all for about a month... and so far I've only lost 2 pounds.
I can't seem to stabilize the way I eat. At first I would bounce from eating 1400 calories to 2660 back to 1500, then 2000, and 1500, 2400, and so on. My nutrition report looks like a roller coaster. :(
Now I've gotten a bit more stable and things are staying lower. I only made one slip to 2100 cals this week.. other than that i've kept at 1700.
Unfortunately this stuff has been causing my weight to yo-yo between 272 and 268.
Is there anything I can do to get better about this? Other than trying harder to stick to my calories EVERY DAY, what else can I do about this plateau?
This early in a diet you're supposed to be dropping weight a lot quicker... :grumble:

But dont let a 2 pound loss discourage you! 2 pounds is 2 pounds and at least you are working at it. Some people do drop a lot at first but its mostly water weight. Ive been at this 2 weeks. The first week I lost 5 pounds then this week nothing...but I have stuck to it and I know next week I will see more results. Im sure once you have been at this a little longer it will all even out.

    Good luck!

Log your food the night before and stick with it...if your food choices for the next day use every last calorie your allotted, then no little snacks, etc. This is what has worked for me since joining MFP. My goal is to have an extra 200-300 calories left so I can have a little snack somewhere in my day. Try this for awhile and see if it helps. If it does it will make it easier to stick with it.

    Good Luck!

Sadly, you really do need to find a way to stabilize your calories. Make sure you are exercising!!!!! My problems in the past have been trying one without the other. Also, make sure on your "good" days that you're not under-eating! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!:flowerforyou: Keep posting, try to find a buddy to whom you can be accountable. Just yesterday there was a thread about sharing food logs daily. Maybe search for that and join the group. Or start your own. Good Luck!! Don't give up!

It'll go slower at a higher caloric intake. If you can lower it to about 1400/day, you'll see the pounds drop faster.

Six years ago, when I was a size 26, I cut my calories to 1200-1400/day, exercised at home every day, and in 9 months I was 125 pounds and a size 6. I put a couple of pics in my profile.

You can do this! If I can do it, anyone can!

You gotta really fight for it and push yourself physically when excercising ..be sure to check with your Doc and make sure you get the OK to push yourself to full capacity. You need to watch sodium too .....main thing is find a set caloric intake and try to stick with it. Good luck!! You Can Do This!!

    not necessarily,
Every person is different. Some start off with a bang, others start off slowly.

I'll share with you a couple of things you CAN count on.

    1) If you can't figure out emotionally why your eating is so erratic then you'll never fix it. You don't really need to FIX all your problems to fix your eating, you just have to be consious of them.

    2) you don't NEED to eat the same amount of calories every day, you just need to try to stay at a deficit every day, that deficit can fluctuate from 1 calorie to (if you are obese) 1000 calories and you can remain healthy, while that big of a swing is probably counter productive to most, it remains a truth if you can stick to it (which is probably the hardest part).

    3) Essentially, if you eat the correct macronutriants every day, then the following will be true.
if calories in is less then calories out you WILL lose weight. That doesn't mean you will always lose fat, but you WILL lose weight. Losing fat is more complicated and involves spacing out meals correctly, eating proper portions, eating the right macronutriants (protein, vitamins, fats, carbs...etc) and proper exercise.

I KNOW you can do it girl. It may not be easy, It may be a little scary, and it may not be fun, but essentially when it comes down to it, you have to ask yourself "How bad do I want it?" I ask myself that every morning when I wake up and want to EAT EAT EAT.
I ask myself that every day when I change into my workout gear, dreading the routine I know I am about to do. But then I look in the mirror, and know that over the course of 15 months I have lost 55 lbs, and then gained back 4 lbs in muscle and I look SO much better then I did.

If I and my A.D.D. personality can do it. ANYONE can do it.

Thank you everyone for all the support and advice. It's really really hard for me to limit my calories because I love food and am an emotional eater, plus fast food is very convenient and means I don't have to cook after a long day... I have been trying to cook more at home (I cook healthy foods when i do cook, oddly enough.) and prepare good stuff to have the next day too. Still, the restaurant food and fast food really calls to me. :noway:
The bottom line is I am already limiting myself waay more than I used to which is a start. And i'm actually exercising now, even if it's only twice a week.
I just need to find ways to curb my emotional eating and cravings, and get myself to exercise...
As for lowering calories to 1400 to 1200, I might after I've gotten myself used to staying under 1700  Otherwise I think I'll start feeling TOO limited ... and I don't want to frustrate myself and make such a huge leap all at once.
