Cheat Day?

Hello everyone!
I just joined Golds Gym and someone mentioned to me that you should allow yourself a cheat day once a week or once every two weeks to eat whatever you want. How do you all feel about it? Thanks!

My doctor suggested that as well. She refers to it as a mardi Gras day! I think it is a great idea if your cheat day is not overboard. I think you still need to use moderation and make good choices. She suggested that if I know ahead of time that we will be at a party or out to eat then plan for that to be the mardi gras day. So if I were planning my cheat day around dinner out with friends I would eat good all day and then maybe splurge a little at dinner. By that I mean skipping the appetizer but enjoying something other than a salad with grilled chicken for dinner and maybe a couple bites my hubbies dessert. I think as long as you don't go absolutely crazy and you set some limits for it then it is a great idea. It helps me with cravings b/c I know that one day a week I can have a little something like pizza (my favorite) or a cookie or two. I just remember that I can't eat 4 slices or the whole sleeve of cookies!
I have some friends that do the low carb thing and once a every 10 days or so they have a carb up day where they load up on carbs..but good carbs. In theory is kind of throws a shock to their system and jumpstarts the weight loss. I have not actually tried this but they swear it works!0 -
In a word, no. Show some resolve, says I.0

Yes, I always heard a cheat or a "reward" (as I like to call it) once a week is good for you- it boosts your metabolism and your weightloss. I think it is more of a cheat meal than a whole cheat day and as Bamboo said you still have to use moderation and not eat a whole pizza by yourself. We can't deprive ourselves of everything or else our diets will never stick. Eat enough to enjoy it, but don't over eat- you don't want to ruin all the hard work you did throughout the week. If you don't go overboard I think a little cheat is good0

I've always had a day when I didn't keep right to the 1200 calorie. We called it a "cheat" day but I neverr went hog wild on that day. I just ate something I wouldn't usually have during the week. It hasn't affected how I lost weight. I was 205 and now I'm 169 and yeah I have about 19-20 lbs to go but I have come to the conclusion that if you never give yourself a break you won't stick with it.0
