THE BEST DIET

Finally a study that shows weight loss comes down to calories in and calories out.
It was on the Today show this am, the results were that all participants lost weight regardless of protein, carbs, fats.
No one went under 1200 calories a day
Participants were asked to exercise 90 minutes per WEEK
the only difference they found was that people who joined groups or entered therapy lost an average of 13 lbs every six months vs. 9 lbs in 6 months for those that went at it alone.
participants kept an average of 9lbs off after two years.
The message, a heart healthy, restricted calorie diet and exercise are the best diet plan.
Yes, the numbers were not huge like biggest loser, but the results are great and the maintenance is happening.
I guess the tortoise really does win the race! (slow and steady) :flowerforyou:

I love it when folks ask what my "secret" to weightloss is. I always whisper, "The secret is....counting calories and exercising!"
They're always bummed, lol.
I tried the low- fat thing, and I lost weight but I was also simultaneously cutting calories (duh!). And the low-carb thing always felt bogus to me. But once I learned to simply count calories, it was a no-brainer.
Calorie Counting is the "one true diet."0 -
How interesting. Just as long as you stay in you calories alottment. You will lose weight. I do beieve you need to keep an eye on the others things too. I have to watch carbs for they do make my blood sugar go up.But staying in my calories range is the most important. Caliecat0

I basically watch calories, carbs and sodium...but it is true watching calories plays a HUGE role:drinker:
Also taking into account the quality of the calories your consuming...I hear a lot of people say a calorie is a calorie..although this may be true to some extent....the extra stuff that comes along with the calories needs to be accounted for ...sugars,fats etc.....0 -
I was looking at something on msn and got linked into a calorie counter, then clicked on this article. Interesting how things pan out!0

Out of curiosity, what felt bogus about a low carb plan?? Protein, veggies at first and then adding in appropriate other veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds and then a few whole grains seems pretty natural eating to me...............
But that is doing it by the book.0 -
Ok, I think the message of the study was regardless of what diet you choose or what you choose to eat as long as you keep your calories in check and take in less than you use you will lose weight.
Yes different health issues may cause you to watch one thing more than others, carbs, salt etc and some may choose to cut certain things because they believe that one group of foods causes weight gain.
The study just showed that it DOES NOT matter what kind of diet you choose as long as your calories are in check and you exercise, in other words there is no miracle diet or pill that is going to cure obesity other than to eat right and exercise! OH, and that apparently is the secret to weight loss
Choose your diet based off of your personal needs and desires, keep you calorie intake at no less than 1200 and exercise! :flowerforyou:0
