I'll usually grab a banana just before the work out (working out on a totally empty stomach makes me nauseous) and then eat my lunch after my work out.
I don't know if that's the way you're supposed to do it, but that's what works for me.0 -
I ususally eat my breakfast (oatmeal usually, with some fruit) 2 hours before my workout, and after my workout, I grab a protein bar or cereal bar. Then another hour or so later, I eat lunch.0

I took a quiz on the MSN fitness page and it said the best things to eat *before* a work-out are carbs. You burn those during the exercise. If you're going for something heavier, maybe wait until after.0

Hey whats up. The best way to do it is to eat after the workout. If you have energy to do the workout then you are fine but after the workout that is when your muscles are gonna require the nutrients and energy the most and your body is in recovery mode right after the workout. This way most of the food you eat is gettign put into building muscle and recovery. If you are feeling like you dont have energy before the workout then by all means eat a little light snack or something to get you going. Like a salad or something but keep it light until after the workout. And eat as soon as possible after you get done with the workout. Thats the best way to do it0

You're body needs energy before you make it work hard. I would have a late morning snack about an hour to an hour and a half before the lunch workout and then again a late afternoon snack before the dinner workout. I work out early in the morning and can really tell the days that i have something and the days that i don't. Make sure that it is low fat low protein so you're body can digest it before you move. You'll have a much better workout and can push hard when your body is fueled. Good luck0

I have read every answer in fitness and medical journals, but the one that makes the most sense to me is to eat something at least an hour before-but no closer to the workout. Here is the explanation
Yes, you need eneergy to make it through your work out, but if you eat RIGHT before or even 15-20 minutes before, then your body is still digesting when you begin your work out. Once you start elevating your heart rate and feeling that muscle burn then your body isn't as concerned with the digestion process because of everything else going on, so you want to be sure you have your food digested before you work out so food isn't sitting in your stomach and you are really burning stored calories and fat.
I personally like to work out first thing in the morning before I've eaten anything0 -
