The best way to go about this is to work out your body fat% this wil give you a clear indication0

I didn't know there was a formula. I'm just browsing. I had a body scan done. It was pretty in depth about what areas of my body needed the most work. Turns out I'm not as "fat " as I thought lol!0

You're looking for a way to calculate lean body mass. Without a body scan every thing is pretty much a best guess or an estimate. Get a pair of calipers, and start taking measurements.0

Here is a link to bodybuilding.com's lean body mass calculator

You need to know your body fat to figure this out. Once you know your body fat then you can calculate lean body mass. Train, eat right and test it again later down the road (6 mos?) Keep in mind that if you're eating in a calorie deficit, your likely not putting on any muscle mass.0

Your bf% can give you an idea. Example: If your starting weight 200 lbs at 10% bf. Ending weight 1 year later 220 lbs at 10% bf is a 20 lb lean muscle gain. Just to keep it simple.0

yea but I m losing weight here are my stats I started out at 286 with 32.6% body fat, Now Im at 210 and 19.6% bpdy fat. that difference is roughly 76 pounds. If I had gained weight it would b easy to tell as long as body ft goes down, but Im losing so is there a way to tell How much muscle I have gained if Im losing weight. I am not the best mathamatician so I hope I am not missing something easy.
So I take the 286-32 and get 254 pounds lean body mass, then I take 210-19 and get 191 pounds lean body mass, an dnow I am confused whats my answer0 -

I already posted the formula above. I understand you're not good at math, so i'll do it for you. I was crappy at math, but for my majors it's 90% of my classes are math.
starting
286
32.6% bf
ending stats
210
19.6 % bodyfat
your starting stats
286(body weight) * .326(body %) = 93.2 (pounds of fat)
286(total weight) - 93.2(pounds of fat) = 192.8lbs(of muscle)
your ending stats
210(bodyweight) * .196(body %) = 41.16(pounds of fat)
210(body weight) - 41.16(pounds of fat) = 168.84(lbs of muscle)
difference in stats
So 168.84(ending muscle mass) - 192.8(starting muscle) = -23.96(muscle gain)
93.2lbs(starting fat) - 41.16(lbs of fat) = 52.04lbs (fat loss)
Total weight loss = 23.96 + 52.04 = 76lbs exactly. This is what shows on your ticker as well.
So sorry to break it to you man,but you lost 23.98lbs of muscle.
and lost 52.04lbs of fat.
Wow Pu, great calculation very clearly broken down!0 -
Good numbers PU.
Only thing is, how did he calculate bf% as most ways are quite inaccurate.0 -
WOW, I find that very hard to believe that I lost 23 pounds of muscle just for the fact I have had huge strength gains, My bench press is up 40 pounds since April, My squats are up 120 pounds. I have been doing P90X Religiously since August 1st. I have actually had an increased measurement on my chest and arms. I got the same numbers you got so I believe the math is right, nut it sure doesnt seem like I have lost muscle. Oh well I will keep on trucking. Thanks for the help everybody.0

Size doesn't indicate strength in muscle, it's all about density.0 -
