When to transition to a strength training phase

I've lost about 40 pounds over the last 6 months with mostly diet ... some light cardio, but not much. I still have a long ways to go with the weight loss (another 100 pounds), but would like to see if I can start building some muscle and tone up a bit. I've read a lot about how difficult it is to try to lose weight AND build muscle at the same time. I'm willing to back off on the weight loss for a while and focus on muscle building.

My question is, is it too soon to start worrying about building muscle? Should I concentrate on losing more weight first? What would be the ideal cycle of weight loss vs. muscle building?

I'm not sure about it being hard to lose weight and build muscle at the same time....I did it without any problem. And as a woman you don't have to worry about muscle weight (if you're concerned about the numbers on the scale) or bulking up because as women we just don't do that.

I don't think that it's ever too soon to strength train and build muscle, as that's all a part of being healthy. Plus the more muscle you have the more calories your body burns when you're not exercising. I do 30 minutes of cardio (walking on the treadmill at a 7-9 incline) and then a 30-minute Kettlebell routine that really torches the calories. I've had great results with that.

Keep up the good work, losing 40 lbs is not easy so you've done great over the last 6 months!!!
