New Year's Cleanse??

Hi everyone,
So with the holidays and the HUMONGOUS amount of processed food I've been eating...I've been doing some serious thinking about doing a cleanse in January...just to get rid of the toxins and start clean! I've spoke with my personal trainer and she has told me its perfectly healthy...just do my research, so while I am researching, I thought why not ask my MFP family! So have you ever done a cleanse? ANY and ALL feedback and tips would be freaking sweet!

Hello,
I've done fruit and veggies for 9 days with only water and that has worked I've also went 30 days with just veggies, fish, and fruit and my skin looked great. But I am seeking a liquid cleanse0 -
I am on day 11 of a 75 day planned juice/water fast. I am a serious food addict, super morbidly obese, and am dealing with tons of pain from joints, etc that make it nearly impossible to walk for more than a few feet. On day 11, I am noticing that I feel AWESOME! my headache is gone, from caffeine withdrawal. I have more energy, I can walk longer and work on my feet for longer periods of time before I have to take a break. My break times are shorter. I have hopes that in a few more weeks I may be back to employable. I have only had 2 perfect days on this fast so far, to be completely honest, but the benefits are making me stronger every day. My slips are becoming smaller and fewer and I am praying for the strength to be completely, 100% on target January 1. Yesterday I ate a bit of peanut butter (probably 1/2 cup) because I got obsessed about protein and gave myself an excuse. The hardest part for this serious food addict is the mind games I play with myself. Day by day, I am getting mentally stronger as I let the addicted part of me die off. I am praying more, reading my Bible more, using this as time to grow closer to my faith. So many benefits.
Days 2-5 were miserable for me, though. Be warned....withdrawal symptoms if you have been eating a lot of sugar/flour/caffeine type foods. Headache, skin itching, diarrhea, etc.
If you are interested, there is a great documentary called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. If you have Netflix, it is an instant play selection. You could get a free trial so you can watch it.....highly recommended. It is what started me on this journey. Sorry for the long post. I am just so excited about what I have accomplished.0 -
Totally not necessary unless you have a specific health issue and your doctor has prescribed one. Eat healthy, sweat and drink water. Our bodies naturally cleanses themselves.

I have only done one type of cleanse and it was the Shakeology 3 day cleanse. It is not super restricting and the shakes provide your body with all of the vitamins and minerals it needs. You intake about 900-1000 calories a day so it really isn't that rough. the cleanse is made to rid your body of the toxins and junk in it and prepare it for better absorption for clean eating.

@ TNFirefly- I hope you spoke to a healthcare professional about going ont hat cleanse. It sounds a bit scary and scarce. I'm not trying to get into a cat fight but it just sounds like you are not getting nearly half of the vitamins and minerals your body needs to function on a normal basis. Best of luck to you.0 -
I am doing the Master Cleanse right now, actually going longer than I wanted (waiting for pay day to go to the store) After easing out of that I do a raw food diet for about a week, then resume my usual diet (gluten free & vegan). I have kept the weight off & have continued to lose since adopting this healthy lifestyle. One time I did resume to a regular diet & I gained it all back. Gluten free & vegan have helped me stay healthy & keep me symptom free from my previous chronic illnesses.

I agree. Your liver and kidneys "cleanse" your body. You do not have a magic storage of toxins waiting to be released via juice fast or some "cleansing" product you can buy.0 -

I've found out which foods affect me the way they do after fasting. Like the dairy and gluten. Many years it caused me a lot of pain, had I known these were the causes I would have eliminated them a long time ago.0 -
I don't think a full on juice fast is a good thing... I don't think that's what is being suggested here. On the other hand I think juicing is a great idea especially when you add veggies to your juice. I'm thinking of buying a cheap juicer (as I am very new to juicing) and making my own fruit and veg juices. The juice will only supplement a new year's "diet" of salads, lean proteins, and grains like brown rice and barley.0
