Eplain to me Net Calories Consumed

I really just want to know how many calories I need to eat. in a day...and account for exercise. My daily goal right now is roughly 1600 calories.
That's ~1200 calories net, after accounting for burning 400 during exercise.

Help me.
BTW, I am 5' 2", 28 year old Female, 173 lbs.

    When you enter in your information and choose how many pounds per week you want to lose it calculates your daily goal for you.

    That us the goal you should eat at. If you DO exercise you add it to your diary and it adds more calories to your "remaining calories" you can eat. It does everything for you.

    What specifically are you confused about so i can better explain.

    You need to try to eat all your calories to facilitate safe, effective fat loss.
    MFP just makes is easy to keep track.

    I figured it out by testing to see if I exercised would it increase the calories. I didn't realize that it did that. I have been a long time user of Calorie Count.
    Now I get it and I will be adding my exercise to my log each day. Looks like whatever I do I will need to burn at least 400 calories in addition to my normal activity.
