I haven't bought my own socks in years- I just use hubby's.
I make my own laundry soap by the five-gallon bucket.
I never drive anywhere for just one thing- always plan ahead and combine trips. But I will drive an extra six miles to a certain gas station where gas is consistently 10 cents per gallon cheaper. :laugh:0 -
IF SOMETHING BREAKS I PULL OUT THE DUCK TAPE,
IF SOMETHING RIPS, I SEW IT
IF THE CHOCOLATE HAS MELTED ONTO THE WRAPPER, I SWEAR I WILL STICK THE WHOLE WRAPPER IN MY MOUTH FOR A WHILE
I GET MY MUSIC OFF YOUTUBE CONVERTER - F** PAYING ITUNES0 -
im out of toothpaste so i just steal some from my sister0

It's like underwear you can wear 4 days in a row {flap forward, flap back, turn inside out repeat}.0

That guys is a freakin' genius. lmao0 -
I limit my trips to town as much as possible. I also cook at home constantly and pack my lunches. By the way, my mom calls it "thrifty" not cheap, but, yeah, she's cheap.0

I try to find coupons for everything I can, especially when ordering online. Retailmenot.com if my fave! I rent textbooks instead of buy, or buy online and sell back online. I buy clearance items or used clothes on ebay. I frequent Ross or the internet to find things cheaper. I always find ways to cut corners. I'm a student, I grew up poor, so my mom taught me well and I learned a lot of my own tricks too. I can't afford to pay full price for much these days!0

Ways I save money:
- I make my own shampoo and conditioner, along with making my own laundry detergent. It's a whole lot cheaper and last longer, plus works just as well if not better than name brand stuff
- With certain things I go generic, it's the same thing (sometimes cheaper)... but for certain things I will go name brand/ or if the generic is more than the name brand.
- For clothes I shop thrift stores.... you get like new things for way cheap... I don't buy used underwear  I buy those at wal-mart or target, also socks as well
- I did cloth diaper my daughter, she is getting into potty training now (that saved hundreds to thousands)
- I save all my change, it adds up later on
- I walk to places if it's not too far, good thing the grocery store is just down the street0 -
I chase after the garbage truck with a grocery list lol0

Coupons, bulk buying and only buying in season. Manager's specials and day old markdowns, the clearance rack is my friend (with coupons). I love Farmer's Markets (go on the last day at the end of day and haggle).
Clothing furniture etc, reuse reuse reuse ... you can call it living green. I rare to never buy new. My house is full of antiques I found at thrift stores (you need to have an eye for this). The thrift stores here are really good, so the name brand clothing still has the tags on them. I boughts a $300 coat for $14 tags still on for instance. I have good china to eat off of, and henckle knives (retail value about $490, I paid $20), etc
I reuse what I can, aluminum foil, good baggies, but mostly use tupperware I bought from ... you guessed it. I also love yard sale season, and have been know to use lines to dry clothing. The more money I don't spend un-necessarily = more money in my bank account for a rainy day. I hold on to money and hate, hate , hate to give it up unless I love an item.0 -
Thrift store shopping but only on 50% off days.
Most purchases are comparison shopped online before entering the store.
Couponing. . . definitely couponing.0 -
I'm so cheap that when I go downtown (if you're from San Fran, you know driving is a pain) I don't spend the $2 on the bus. I just walk/run, funny because I get to my destination the same time the bus comes.0

Proof that you can't judge a book by it's cover. I honestly would not have that you were such a recycler/thrifter.0 -

:blushing:
I meant to add I use freecycle as well.0 -
Can't afford to pay attention0

I went to buy a cover for my ice pack and it was 6 bux. On the other side of the isle was a package of tube sox. I got 12 ice pack covers for the same price
They are the perfect thickness, and you can hold them just so for your back, neck, knee, shoulder.........oy, I have GOT to stop exercising it is killing me:sick:0 -
With six kids, I let them go to the local pool for a bath and clean up  Do tons of bulk shopping and watching for sales!!0

I am so cheap I only buy brand name clothes on sale, I buy $3 bras from Walmart, cheap socks and underwear from Walmart, shoes from Payless on sale, and also shop at second hand stores for fashion items. But pants... well, that's a whole different story. I get those $100 a pop. I guess it makes up for it.
As far as shopping stores... we don't have a cheap grocery bill but I will always go for the store brand and what is on sale. Guess we just buy a lot of food. Doesn't help I make a new meal every night lol. I do the mail in rebate thing, coupon surveys, and other good things. My email is overloaded with coupon newsletters for restaurants, clothing stores, hair salon, and whatever else I can think of.
Love being cheap though. Saves misery in the long run.0 -
I can't get the hang of coupons. Seems to never save me much since I already buy generic and most coupons are for name brand foods.
I cook at home and pack the kids lunches. Saves us money and usually is healthier.
I'm big on clothing... Only buy on sale or clearance. If things get stained, I dye or applique over them on the kids things. I patch holes and sew.
I resale gently used clothes to resale shops. What they don't keep, I save bits of to applique with or patch. Or add to the bottom of hems that need lengthening. I use old sheets and things to make rugs and bath mats.0 -
I make my own snack size/portion sized things using my food scale and measuring cups. It is so much cheaper to buy a giant bag of almonds than a 7 snack pack one. I just sit down, weigh and bag portions. It takes time but is worth it.0
-
Everytime I'm about to check out all my groceries, I'll sit there and stare into the basket and pick things out that I don't think I REALLY need and stick them back on the shelves. It drives my husband so nuts. haha0

I have had the same 12 pack of cottonelle TP in my bathroom for guests for the last 8 months. I use the 59 cent single ply cheap stuff.
All veggies that are about to turn I make into wine, or they go into the compost bin to help my cruddy little garden.
I buy bulk seasonal produce from the local farmers. Still working on a 50 pound bag of potatoes but almost out of onions.
When I visit my family I bring the big begging bag and shop in their kitchens when they are out of the room. Sometimes even when they are in the room. Yea, I'm THAT guy0 -
I'm so cheap that I ......
......don't pay full attention! (waka waka)0 -
I only ever shop at thrift shops for clothes
I spend about $15 a week on food
The employees at the 99 cent store literally know me by name.
I collect bottles I find on the street and turn them in for CRV
glue my shoes back together when they're falling apart (like right now)
Make my own toothpaste
Never buy starbucks, unless it's with a cup of someone else's so I can get a 50cent refill (also, I get a venti hot brewed coffee with ice in a separate cup so I get 3x as much coffee as I would if I had gotten an iced)
I eat mustard for lunch sometimes when I'm out because it's free.0 -
At the moment.....i cant think of anything because im super tired. But as a kid i remember this very clear.
My dad pulled into the gas station. I was about 7 or so. Then he left without getting gas. I asked "Daddy why didn't you get gas". He told me "because the one across the street is cheaper." Indeed it was cheaper. By ONE cent! Crazy padre:)0 -
i only buy stuff that I am going to use.
Sounds simple, but all the "deals" on sale and clearance items that I never actually used (except maybe once) in the past cost me more than I should have spent.0
