Weights or Cardio following high cal days?

Buying into the theory that building muscle during calorie deficient diet is very limited. Would it make sense, after a few days of over eating (Christmas or vacation), to concentrate on weight lifting and not as much on cardio when getting back into the gym and cleaning up the diet? The situation that sparked me asking this question is a friend who took 3 days off diet for Christmas and then today completely skipped weights to do all cardio. I can see this routine holding up till getting back on track and then switching to lifting and cardio in each workout. I wanted to challenge them with killing the weights for a few days while the body was loaded. Thoughts???

My vote would be weights - I have no scientific data to back this up. I just think, most of the time that doing weights in general is more effective for weight loss, shaping your body, improving your health, etc than cardio. In fact, weight training CAN be a cardiovascular workout as well.
