How Many Hours Of Sleep?

I know a lot of sources say 7-8 hours of sleep, but trying to exercise, job, church, family time...something has to give. Just wondering, how much sleep do you get on average. I average 6-7 every night but some times I feel like I only have enough time for 5 or less.

I'm in the same boat as you. It is important, but try not to lose sleep over it0

I get a solid 7 almost every night.
Ben Franklin said it best... "Early to bed, early to rise..."
I get up at 5am, but I go to bed at 10pm, sometimes earlier. My wife and daughter don't get up until about 7, so I get 2 full hours to myself every day for whatever I need to do. Usually that's workout time, but sometimes I use it to catch up on work.
I've been doing it long enough now that I don't need an alarm anymore. I usually wake up a few minutes before it goes off.0 -
Usually 7-80

I get 5-6 hrs usually. I get up at 7 and go to bed by 2 most nights. So far I'm doing fine, before I started exercising I slept 12+ hours a day.0

Since I started working the midnight shift I can only get about 5 hours of sleep a day. It's really rough working out right after work, but if I don't do it then I don't think it would get done at all. I'm just super tired the rest of the day.0

I find if I go to bed at a decent hour. Around 9.30 or so then I dont eat as much. Cos the longer I stay awake the more i'm inclined to snack after dinner because I get hungry. So I'm actively trying to go to sleep at 9.30 to avoid the late night snacking. 8 hours sleep0

Does less sleep effect anyone elses snacking habits?0

I get about 8, although I wake up several times in the night so it is probably considerably less. I struggle with sleep and I am forever tired!0

I get 4 hours. If I take my meds I can easily get 6-8 or more. Chemical sleep is never as good as the non chemical sleep, but doc says quantity over quality.0

Lack of sleep can make you feel hungrier, because your body asks for fuel to help you stay awake. That and boredom can easily lead to too much snacking.
I sleep 8 to 12 hours! :bigsmile:0 -
Ideally 6-7 hours sleep is enough for an adult!
but what matters is the 'Quality' of the sleep you had .. if its a sound sleep then 6-7hrs is enough to charge your battery 100%
Try to have sound sleep no matter how many hours you sleep.. once in a while sleep more than usual.. be it a sunday or saturday and make your body feel super chargedl! :bigsmile:0 -
With work, life, coaching etc I tend to get to bed about midnight and I'm up at 0530 most days; I'm shattered by the time it gets to the holiday. However, during the holiday when I tend to go to bed later (2am or 3am are normal for me) then I'm up around 8. And I never use an alarm - I always wake before it.0

7-8, sometimes 9. I definitely need my average of 8 hours to feel good.
As for juggling your time, I recommend "168 Hours: You have More Time Than You Think." by Laura Vanderkam. It is really spot on.0 -
I usually get 7-9 hours. I'm a mess if I get less than 6: yawning half the day, fuzzy brained for the first three hours that I'm up, and just not in a good mood. If I get 9 hours I'm miss sunshine though: in a great mood, lots of energy, and sharp as a tack.
When I was in high school and in my early 20s I used to be fine on 5 hours or less of sleep, but these days, not so much. lol0 -
I have a young terror(child) that I get up with every morning & when I go to bed I just can't switch off! Never have been a good sleeper & sadly I think my daughter has inherited this as I can hear her talking to her teds & moving around at night I would have to say less than six a night & it does affect me the next day, it seems I am perpetually tired.

Oh yes! When I'm not getting enough sleep I definitely crave more food. When I get a solid 9 hours though it makes it SO MUCH EASIER to stay on track and stay under cals.0 -

Actually recent studies show that the ideal for adults is 7-9 hours of sleep.0 -
Weekdays: 8 Hrs. Weekends: More!!0

I have never been a "good" sleeper but had always put it down to being overweight. But even though I have lost 53kg I am not sleeping any better. In fact, my BodyFit Media says I sleep four and a half to five hours per night! Last night I slept a solid five and half hours and felt great.0

I'm lucky if I get any more than 4 hours. Just cant seem to sleep well at all these past twenty years, I think its because there is too much going thru my mind.0

I also get this, I have been having dinner later now (around 8pm), it helps but then I sometimes still have a yogurt or something later on.0 -

I am the very same way!
And yes, going to bed earlier really helps me stay in my calorie goal because nighttime snacking was a huge barrier for me. Every night I wanted to read and snack. I'm so glad to have broken that habit.0 -

Reading and snacking, that's one of the habits I used to have and it was so tough to break! I love having a bowl of popcorn, or some cashews, etc, and a good book. But I would go through the entire bowl very quickly and not even realize it. lol Now I try to eat only when I can give the food my full attention. It helps me feel satisfied with less and keeps me from snacking too much. That was so tough for me though, as I do love snacks and a good book! lol0 -
I get as much sleep as I can. Sleep deprivation is maybe the only thing that makes me even unhappier and meaner than hunger. Put the two together and I'm a raving psychopath.
Sleep shouldn't be the first thing to 'give' in a busy schedule, it should be the last thing. Especially if you exercise because when you sleep, your body does a lot of repairs.
Easy for me to say, right? I'm unemployed with no small children to chase after.0 -
Blasted double post!0

6-8 generally at least 7 which for me is the perfect amount.0
