Need a Treadmill Doctor

My beloved treadmill of 10 years has passed away. I would like to try to save her if possible. I have located a supplier of parts for my make and model. Problem is, I have no idea what I really need.
The motor appears to run fine and all of the belts don't seem to have any stretch to them or thin/worn spots. When no one is standing on it, everything works fine. Speeds up, slows down, inclines and the digital readings work.
As soon as someone steps on it and starts to walk it's like it has a mind of its own. Sometimes you can walk for a whole hour with no problems. Sometimes, the first 5 minutes. It will speed up, slow down, or stop all on its own. With a bad back and hip I simply can't deal with the jarring motion. Last time I was on it I was walking 4mph and it stopped all of the sudden, just as I was about to step down with my right leg, which is my bad side. I about fell and my hip acted up all day.
I was hoping someone might be able to guide me. Do I need a new motor? Belt?
I looked at new treadmills. It seems more cost effective to repair my broken one, depending on what I need. I tried searching the internet but did not have much luck.

Do you have a Play it Again Sports store near you? They sell used fitness equipment and were super helpful when mine was on the fritz.0

Its 20 miles from me. I might call them and see what they have to say. Its a city I dont travel to very often.
I miss city life sometimes, but being in the country has its perks too! When I lived in OK I traveled to this store often. Seems like I was always buying some sort of equipment for myself or my now ex husband. Thanks for the reminder of the store, I honestly had forgotten about them.0
