Feeling sick so way under cals for today... should I eat?

I woke up around 10:30 today and didn't get back to my apartment from my boyfriend's until about noon, when I had a salad and a serving of pretzel M&Ms. Then tonight around 5:30 I started feeling really nauseated and fairly miserable in general. I managed to eat a can of Progresso Penne in Chicken Broth soup for dinner, but I'm really under cals today (900+ left).

Should I try to eat something else or just hope to feel better tomorrow and try to eat all of my cals then? If I should eat something, is there anything you can think of that wouldn't do more harm than good with my sick stomach?

If your stomach is upset and you are not hungry, don't eat. Drink plenty of water and maybe sip some broth.

I agree. Don't force anything on your stomach if it's upset. No good can come of that. ;) Rest!

Don't force yourself to eat when you don't feel well....its likely to have bad effects. One or two days of undereating is not going to harm you.

Always listen to your body. If food doesn't sound good, don't worry about it. Being under cal a couple days because you're sick is no biggie. Feel better!

agreed! if you can tolerate it maybe have some toast or something bland, but i advise that you keep hydrated with gatorade (or something with electrolytes) and get some rest!!

As someone who just got done being sick for a couple of weeks here's my advice-- if your body is sick then anything you force feed it is likely to come back up. So just take it easy, rest up, and don't sweat it.

Hi, I'm new to myfitnesspal and was hoping to get some support and advice. I have lost a lot of weight since the birth of my daughter 2 years ago. However, I quit smoking and gained around 15 lbs. I'm really trying like I was before I quit smoking and nothing seems to work. When I signed up for myfitnesspal it suggested that I eat around 1800 cals a day. I'm eating like 1000 to 1200. So if I increase my caloric intake will I gain or loose. Seems backwards to me but I'm wondering if I'm eating too little?

Listen to your body when you are sick. If your stomach is upset and you don't want food, don't worry about calories. Some crackers might help to settle your stomach. When I was little my mom fed us liquid jello for an upset stomach..make up the jello and drink it instead of letting it get cold and "set." Sprite or Seven Up is also, good.
  • i dont think u should eat anything however dont replace those calories till tomorrow

You'll get a lot more responses if you start your own thread. Generally you want to eat at least 1200 calories per day. I eat almost 1500 and I'm 5'4" with a sedentary lifestyle. I'd start out with setting your goals for a sedentary lifestyle and then you add your exercise to gain extra calories for the day, but as a general rule you shouldn't net below 1200 per day. Good luck, and post a new thread for additional feedback.

Don't force it if you are not feeling well. Sip clear liquids until you feel you can hold food down w/o feeling nauseous. Then introduce foods slowly.
